Vargas states the obvious; Colombian football on FIFA

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1090298.html#vargas+our+fates...

Among some of the more vital points he makes, each colombian player must abide by religiously if they have a hope in hell of qualifying, are:

"We do need to improve our finishing"

"From here to the end of the qualifying phase, every game will be a final."

Frankly, it is somewhat unacceptable that a country such as Colombia, with a population larger than Argentina's and second in S.A. does not make the world cup, especially with the footballing prowess and history that Colombia has.

I agree with manINred.

They have talent but they are scared of trying a shot for fear of missing.
They need to change their coach again, once this shambles has finished. Perhaps from another nation or Valderrama?, that midfield maestro from the 80's and 90's, who did understand the concept of positive football and keeping possession.
Agree with above!
In the meantime, with the cause almost lost, why not go for it by changing the strikers completely: choose a couple of cocky teenagers without full international caps, who have managed to perform perhaps at under 21 level rather than the regulars who are now too demoralised and under too much pressure to perform at their best.

Its an education thing. Why are Colombia not producing players like Valderrama, Rincon, Asprilla anymore?

Take my country for example (Scotland) in the 70's and 80's - every team in the English top division had 4 or 5 scots in the team. Nowadays.....nothing.

We need to change the way that kids are taught football.....I think our teams are stronger at U-19 level because they seem to be stronger than the other teams. Absolutely useless though when the other, more skill ful nations players develop into men though.
