Value of a CELTA Certificate?

I am interested in hearing from knowledgeable PBHers who have taken the CELTA course and their thoughts on the course itself and it value in foreign countries. I have an oppurtunity in January to attend the CELTA course in San Francisco near the Colombian Consulate. As i understand it, it is a pretty intense course. My goal is to open English classes for some of the poorer children who possess potential, and who do well in school. I intend to provide for all the costs from company proceeds. I have no formal training in teaching, as my carreer was in other areas. However, i have been involved in the training of new employees associated with my prior profession.

Any teachers out there who can offer their expertise and comments?
