vacationing in Medellin

As we all know, traveling to any place where a friend is waiting at the airport can be the beginning of a great vacation. And this is where I need help.
I'm planning to visit Medellin and being my first time, I have no contacts in the city thus far.
I live in southern California and I would like to know If I should stay in a hotel compare to an apartment. Where the fun places are for dancing and meeting ladies. And since I play tennis, are there any public or private tennis clubs that I can use. Is it safe to hire a guide to show me the city? And what would it costs?
I appreciate your help.
Vincenzo

El Campistre in Poblato has tennis and golf........should be able to google them...........as for places to meet the other things ou mentioned............they are waiting for you at girl stops.........those are similar to bus stops...........these facilities are all over the city.......approach with caution as they will run at you in large groups.........mauling and screaming in their frantic pursuit to be the first to get their hands on you....................there is also girl repellent available in most drug stores...................spray it on liberally...............tennis playing dudes from California are in big demand...........

Good advice Raaay.
El Club Campestre in Poblado: Vincenzo, first of all prepare 20 millions to become a member (it is cheap because it is lifetime for all the family), then you pay 700.000 per month to have access (again, they don't ask much, it is for all the family), then pay something like 10.000 for renting the court for one hour (a little bit more in the night, but you know, light is expensive)...

The stadium may be your best bet. They have some nice tennis courts, Olympic size pool, and many more. If you stay at some of the nicer apartment buildings, they have tennis courts.

Below is the website for tennis at the stadium and also Medellin apartments who has atennis courts.

.....Robbi............you didn't seem to appreciate my suggesting Club Campestre............I can only go with my own personal experience...........early June of this year I took a taxi to Club Campestre.............security guard directed me to the reception..............They showed me two rooms..........one was a regular room at $70 per night.......the other a suite at $100 per night...........I stayed in the suite for a week and played 4 rounds of golf at $5 per round........nomention of memberships or any of that stuff.............

Ray...
That's new for me! Club Campestre letting a stranger stay in a room and use the golf... Ok, Ray, I didn't know it could be possible.

Really, RAY, Club Campestre is not an hotel and it is reserved to "socios". What happened to you it is frankly strange and I am sure they enlisted you like a guest of another "socio". After all this is Colombia and they probably wanted to make some bucks, but it is not something they should do and that can cause problems.
The website is:

Club Campestre is the most exclusive club and if you have any kind of business in Medellin, you want to be one of their affiliated.

El estadio also has a cool walk/run path on the inside where you will also find security and even free public restrooms. A real nice place. I checked into swimming laps and they require a test to verify you can swim ok then some small up front membership initiation fee and a small monthly fee.

Does anyone know if any other good running options in Medellin? Kinda hard to go joggin thru hilly Poblado amid all the traffic and constructions.

Gracias!

I believe there is a park next to the old airport. Here is another place

Unidad Deportiva Andres Escobar
- Calle 30 A con la 66B - Belén

106 mil metros cuadrados.

For jogging there are lots of mountains around Medellín.

Also on September 9th there will be a half marathon.

The thing with Medellin is a week or two is'nt enough. Especially if its a repeat visit. You have to go for a month or longer. Weekdays are quiet. If you don't know anybody, you'll end up sitting in the hotel watching CNN Sunday-Thursday. Look what happened with Greg666. He went for the weekend and came back feeling sour.

you're right morphus.. unless you come to colombia(medellin) w/ contacts n hand. weekdays(monday thru thurs) is pretty dead.. unless you're hitting the "other nightlife" then it doesnt matter. but it's easy to meet new friends n colombia if you're a little friendly and speak alittle spanish. also, if u meet a friend and they(he/she) have job. then during the weekdays(and sat morning) they're at work. so u better find stuff do during those times.

I just goin to enjoy this trip relaxing, exploring more, aprendiendo mas espanol (mas vocabulario) maybe even searching for some real states and even treating myself to the enjoyment of a lady's curves or two.

"vacationing in Medellin" Why? If it's just for a few days you will be fine. Ask the hotel where to go and what to do. They will tell you the following: Guatapé, Metro cable, Hang gliding, maybe Pablo's grave, hang out in Parque Lleras, maybe the water park. Get here on a Wednesday, leave on a Sunday. You almost be bored by the end of your vacation.

I just read you are vacationing by yourself? MONGER ALERT! Good call Morphini. In two months there is a visa forum on PBH that can answer all your K-1 visa questions. But you won't need it on for your first trip.
