Hi, I need some suggestions. I live in Bogota and four of my best friends in the world are coming to visit me for a week in August. I have traveled and vacationed a lot in Colombia but I am kind of stuck about what to do with them. Two of them will want a lie-on-the-beach-and-drink-something-tropical type of vacation while two really want to see Colombia and see what my life is like here. I would like to go somewhere and stay for the whole week rather than traveling around. And my apartment in Bogota is much to small. So I was thinking about Santa Marta... has anyone stayed anywhere particularly nice there? Is there enough to do for a week? Or any other dream vacation suggestions? Thank you!

vicshere says on Jul 17, 2005, 14:13: Sierra Nevada The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta should be kept out of the picture for gringos as there is still small factions of undesirables nested in the mountains.....who like to kidnap gringos for dollars...as for places to stay I like the Rodarao(sorry spelling) it has lot of restaurants hotels discos bars ...like most other beach resort you will find in the Caribbean.... you can rent a apartment for 60,000 a night that accommodates like 6 people..that's 10,000 a night per person or less than 5 buckaroos for you gringos hehehhehe.....Tayrona Park yes do it beautiful..... do the horse back tour to the beach....they let you ride on your own and the horse finds there way back to stables at 5:00 the horses show up to pick you up.... dam horses are smarter than some of the people heheheheh....Taganga (diving) didn't do it no comment..... I found Santa Marta the city very dirty and didn't like it therelisto listo 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Copete says on Jul 17, 2005, 17:01: Not Santa Marta If your friends only have a week, you need to work out a schedule that gives them a fair general picture of the country, while at the same time gives them a meaningful amount of time for each of the places they visit. And as much as I like Santa Marta, I don't think it's a destination I would fit into a 1-week trip.
