U.S.transit visa for my wife....planing on visiting family in colombia in the new year.My wife has a pr visa for canada but as yet is not a canadian citizen so she will be using her colombian passport. We would like to travel through the u.s. as we can do

I was wondering if anyone has had any exsperience or been in a similar situation traveling....how much of a problem is it to get her a transit visa?...cost?..time frame to obtain it...can she get a multiple entry visa for future visits over the next couple years...or will we have to reapply each trip....she will be a canadian in two and years and at that time we will get her a canadian passport.I would hope it would,nt be to much trouble to travel through and stop for a night in the u.s.....its not like she would give up her pr visa here to become a u.s. ilegal....any info would be appreciated

It is my understanding is she holds a Canadian PR card issued after June 28, 2002 no transit visa is required. Best bet is to contact the airline you will be using.

Thanks gator...i,ll check that out....going through the u.s. would save me about 6 or 7 hundred bucks on the tickets as i can book the whole itinerary in one shot and get to BQ where we want to go.If i fly toronto to bogota direct i have to book a flight with avianca or anouther airline to get to Bq from bogota...and only one airline i can use to get to bogota that i know of is air canada...they don,t go to BQ......

checked with the airline and they said as long as she has her PRcard we are good to go.
Kind of funny though as i phoned a U.S. embassy here in canada and the lady i talked to there said i had to make a special trip to calgary with my wife and her passport and apply for a transit visa.I think the airline is correct as im sure they must deal with this sort of thing on occation...took a while on hold to get an answer from them but i finally got one.
