Use cocaine? The phrase 'moral cretin' comes to mind...

4.4 sq m Of rainforest is destroyed to produce each gram of cocaine

200-300 tons of cocaine is smuggled into Europe every year

One million Britons regularly use the drug

4 million acres of Colombian rainforest has been destroyed to grow coca

The Colombian Government sprayed 380,000 acres of rainforest in its fight against coca cultivation

2,500 illicit cocaine laboratories were destroyed in Colombia in 2007

Good point James. Their number runs into what? Three million? Appalling.

The moral outrage should be directed at the governments that ban the drug. If it was legal and regulated the problems you listed would go away or at least be dealt with much easier.

But until that unlikely day dawns, I'll spare my 'moral outrage' for those who cut pregnant women up with chainsaws, shackle people to trees for years on end, put coppers in wheelchairs, corrupt the political process, erode social cohesion...

There are many problems with drug classification in the UK and it is unlikely to be reviewed or changed in the foreseeable future. As kalder says, while the cocaine industry is run by murderers and rapists it is extremely immoral to keep giving them money via cocaine. I don't really see how someone can defend buying cocaine. It is purely for pleasure and not essential; therefore for your pleasure you are funding groups that regularly commit murder and rape and thus force people to move to the slums of Bogota.

for you colombian residents................one must be clear and how it actually works. the govt seizes the labs in the selva...then, the thousands of tons cocain go to govt warehouses...any film of them burning the stuff is 'disinformation' video. the stuff is worth more than platnum. then, mr big, the govt, will in turn distribute it domestically and internationally...remember, they have diplomatic immunity and their planes go around the globe, untouched, unexamined and free to haul what ever they damn well please. too, the govt distributers, because of this dip. immunity, are held free and harmless.

the reason it wasn't legalized and taxed many years ago, is that the corruption that surrounds it's distribution is so pervasive, it spreads it's tenacles all the way to the top of government, the military and the police. they profits are so huge, that no one wants to spoil the show. they are ALL enjoying these spoils. to these corrupt officials, it's of no 'never mind' the countless deaths, displacements, distruction of the environment, damage done abroad and in their own streets, it's all about that 'ole filthy lucre', which plates their lives with gold and and allows them the 'dispicable distractions of the rich'.....they have homes in europe, hawaii, mexico, the bahamas all over the united states and have absolutely no intention of changing this pernicious status quo.

Just like coffee, smells good but its bad for the nerves, better off staying away from that crap. if your a gringo or from europe WARNING dont use it like the asprin you snort in your home, because you might end up in the emergency room with your heart about to explode. Its strong here, but the bigger problem as a foreigner is the type of people you hang out with here. You have to be very careful about friends you meet at clubs or in the street.

Be carefull who you hang out with. The after hour crowds here are more dangerous than in the states. The clubs are cool, just be very picky of your new friends. You might just wake up from an awesome party with your furniture gone one day!

Stick with drinking because the women here are not like the states, like for example in miami. Good girls are happy with a few drinks and nothing else.

AS FOR THE POLITICS, THERE IS A LOT OF MISINFORMATION OUT THERE, The paramilitaries and the FARC BOTH RUN COKE LIKE CRAZY. Both sides have slaughtered people. ITS A WAR AND WAR IS HELL! Another reason not to get involved with drugs in Colombia. You are likely putting yourself in close proximity to experienced violent criminals.

After all that i have to say that if you pick your friends well, and dont do stupid stuff in Colombia you are no more likely to have problems here than in the USA or EUROPE

I don't personally like coke very much but I TOTALLY like the fact it exists.

I love the idea of idiot North Americans and Europeans coming here, and killing themselves like the lemmings they are on the pure stuff. I wish that people all over the world could get powder of that quality so they could end their miserable excuses for lives that much earlier.

I love the idea that coke dealers make tons of money and totally upset the ridiculous notions of people TRYING to run a "legit" economy. Those people are all full of shit anyways and if we left them to their own devices we'd be back in the Middle Ages almost overnight. Not to mention most drug dealers are absolute scum, and they have totally low life expectancies as well. Another one bites the dust, chaolin pirobo!

Not to mention if it wasn't for illicit drugs there would be NO modern music industry whatsoever. We'd all be reduced to driving taxis and scubbing floors and Colombian music would be worse than Peruvian music. Salsa would never have happened, nor would modern merengue, cumbia, vallenato etc.

I would also like to remind you facilists who are blaming the drug trade on violence in Colombia, your argument is totally unfounded. The worst period in Colombia's history was appropriately called La Violencia and it lasted from 1948-1960... WAY WAY before Colombia was dealing marijuana much less cocaine. Colombia's history is just about as bloody as it gets, and the great majority of the bloodshed happened without any drugs being involved.

La Huella,
Why is that?? WTF is wrong with Colombia? Why are they all Neanderthal like? They are always bloody, fighting, killing, or kidnapping something?
Isn't it like this all over the world....as you like to say?

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

I would agree on the term 'moral cretin' on the condition that cigarette smokers (with all of the externalities that cigarette smoking brings) be labelled as such too.

Otherwise 'misguided, ignorant sap' might be more appropriate.
