Miami Herald: Monday December 17,2007
BOGOTA - A U.S. w0man was shot and killed as she vacationed with her Colombian husband in this South American country. She died in a robbery that netted $200 and a laptop computer, police said on Sunday.
Jean Oviedo, 37, arrived ten days ago at the northeastern Colombian city of Bucaramanga with her three children and husband, police Gen. Alvaro Enrique Miranda said.
Officials said Oviedo is from South Carolina. An independent search however, could not confirm her residence there.

It freaks me out when I see a teller using their cell phone while I am being served by one of them. That should have been outlawed long ago.

Not everything in Colombia is written out for you.

For exam, when they show up at your business to receive protection money, you don't ask them to show you the legal clause that permits it. You understand it's this way or no more business.

You now some other way the criminals would know both her name and the exact amount she withdrew earlier?

The very few times I had to stand in line at the bank in Villavicencio, there were armed guards that would not allow people to use their cell phones. Of course, I noticed a guard or two using THEIR cell phone at their leisure. The Colombian bank experience gives me the creeps.

Rob77 says on Dec 19, 2007, 15:29:

All the banks have the no cell phone policy. But I stood in front of tellers many times, watching them have a conversation on their cell, while they were attending to me.
