Does anyone know anything about getting a work visa to the US. I've read about the actual proceedure, but was wondering about such things as success rate, tips for approval, etc... The company that I work for is willing to "hire" my Colombian friend.

If the job doesn't require a 4 year degree good luck. I have a friend go thru the process that is from the philipines and any mistake in the process you have to start all over incluing the cost of filings. he is here on a temp visa until he get final approval.

Both of them managed to obtain their greencards - one in less than a year and the other took about 4 years. The most important part is if the owner or the business is willing to do the paperwork required. Good Luck

rjstuff says on Dec 23, 2006, 13:59: Well only 99% of them! LOL! I also know of one illegal from Mexico who worked in my friend's company and they got him the greencard also. He was unskilled when he came but learned to work under-water for them - they specialize in work in the oceans/rivers etc. So, if you have a special skill it does make it easier to get the approval. Or else if the employer can show that he can't find someone with your skills (say if you are an accountant/chemist/etc.) - a little harder to do but can be done. Best to talk to an immigration attorney who handles these. Good Luck
