US to tighten visa restrictions

Check out this foto of US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and the background...looks like one of those futuristic totalitarian Sci fi movies jeje.
This article primarily speaks about new policies regarding new US visa waiver program requirements, however who knows what else may be hidden under the new changes set forth. Could Colombia now become a country that will be added to the new visa waiver list....NOT!
Seriously, just make sure there are no hidden changes for your love ones before traveling.

Well, he is one butt-ugly dude, but that is ONE scary foto.

I hope somebody soon shows George the door, and asks him to take his little playmates with him.

"The waiver programme was initiated in 1986 "with the objective of eliminating unnecessary barriers to travel, stimulating the tourism industry," according to the State Department website., . . .and I'm sure it still will.

I don't think it belongs in off-topic, as it could involve many people here.

I feel bad for all the travelers from visa waiver countries. I can't imagine that this will be implemented smoothly. I'm sure that there will be all kinds of hiccups with the online registration system. If you discount the possibility of bugs, you will still have user errors on the part of the travelers and the ICE people accessing the system. They are also likely to have problems when it comes to integrating this with all the systems at the ports of entry around the country.

I have red it through and laugh about..."That information includes passport number, country of residence, and any involvement in terror activities. ". I do not get it, Is there a question on it where you are asked to writte down is you are a terrorist? something like this:

Please tick the right answer (please be honest). Please note if you are terrorist, you will not be allowed to get into the country and will be prosecuted:

1) Are you a terrorist? yes_____ no____ may be____ would you like____

By the way, I think this thread is not appropriate for this forum.

This is just spanglish, please do not correct me

My dad always used to laugh at the questions he was asked when he first applied for his US resident visa in the sixties. "Are you or have you ever been a member of the communist party?" What kind of idiot answers "yes"? I suppose every generation has to have its boogey man.

In addition to the Commies, other undesirables and a concern with Moral Turpitude, Colombia, Haiti and Cuba get special treatment on the standard Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Form (Form DS-230)

===============================

From the list of things that make you INELIGIBLE

An alien who has ordered, carried out or materially assisted in extrajudicial and political killings and other acts of violence against the Haitian people; who has directly or indirectly assisted or supported any of the groups in Colombia known as FARC, ELN, or AUC; who through abuse of a governmental or political position has converted for personal gain, confiscated or expropriated property in Cuba, a claim to which is owned by a national of the United States, has trafficked in such property or has been complicit in such conversion, has committed similar acts in another country, or is the spouse, minor child or agent of an alien who has committed such acts; who has been directly involved in the establishment or enforcement of population controls forcing a woman to undergo an abortion against her free choice or a man or a woman to undergo sterilization against his or her free choice; or who has disclosed or trafficked in confidential U.S. business information obtained in connection with U.S. participation in the Chemical Weapons Convention or is the spouse, minor child or agent of such a person.

I don't believe he is a commie. He seems to express mostly those views embodied in the philosophy of a libertarian.

aztec. I think Rubito is well aware that I was joking. It was in reference to our comments about the dumb questions asked of immigrants. Surely you don't think that I'd use a silly, archaic term like"pinko" in a serious conversation. I'm not a moronic dittohead or a Fox News watching troglodyte.

aztec says on Jun 6, 2008, 08:42:

This is really what I think of Rubito!

He's something of an individualist. "I don't pay attention to either side," he claims. "I mean, I've always been a libertarian. Leave everybody alone. Let everybody else do what they want. Just stay out of everybody else's hair. So I believe in that value of smaller government. Give politicians power and all of a sudden they'll misuse it on ya."

Does that sound like a quote from Rubito? No. See Below:

Clint Eastwood!

"And yes I got that CG was joking."

So did I Rubito. Never know how it will sound over the internet. Perceptions are affected by our experiences so everyone sees it different.
