U.S. Embassy in Bogota/Fiance Visa

Can someone tell me if you really have to wait 7-10 days for your fiance's passport is updated with the visa info. Our plan was to fly direct from Bogota to Miami if she is approved, as opposed to her going back to Barranquilla and wait 7-10 days. The embassy's website states "Based on the interview, if the consular officer issues the visa, your passport will be sent to your home seven to 10 working days after the interview by the courier service DOMESA".

If I remember correctly, it was fast, but not the same day for my wife's stuff to go through.

no, the embassy no longer uses any courier services... from the embassy website:

Receiving your Visa after Approval

Once the visa is approved, the consular officer will instruct the beneficiary to go to Domesa, the messenger service located at the Embassy. The beneficiary will pay Domesa and once all the supporting documents have been arranged and the visa printed, the package will be delivered in roughly 10 workdays. The fee for Domesa delivery is Col$28.000 for addresses in Bogotá and Col$44.000 for addresses outside of the capital.

Beginning August 1st, 2005, the beneficiary will receive it personally at the Consular Section, on the next working day after the interview, at 4:00PM. The benefiary may assign a representative to pick up the visa with a notarized letter of authorization.

a bit confusing, but the part about domsea is not valid. having spoken with the embassy (you're now saving $16), they no longer use any courier services, and the recipient must show up in person to receive the visa. no if's, and's, or but's.

Likely the next day late afternoon..... Can be expedited if there are really extenuating circumstances.

Hey dr75200, my response to your email kept coming back to me. Here it is:

dr75200,
Hi, There is a bit of a debate between my wife and I (get used to it, you are marrying a colombiana) as to how long it took her to get the residency visa. From what I remember, we put in the papers and returned about 2 weeks later, after a vacation, and it was waiting for us. We didn't know it then, but there is a way for them to mail it to you as well. My wife however, says we returned a month later and that the visa itself took 15 days. Going on what the embassy said, I'd still stick to my story, being in the 7-10 days time-frame. When is she or both of you going to present the forms? I don't know your situation, buuuuuut. If you are here and you guys are going to have the big church wedding and all, what you could do is get married by a notary first. Then, put the papers in and when the big wedding comes about, everything is already taken care of (and more time for the honeymoon). Just a thought.

Bufalo he is NOT applying for a spouse visa but a fiancee visa which does NOT grant residence. For them that comes only after she enters the USA, marry within 90 days and then file for AOS.

In our case... my wife got her visa same day. It was supposed to be next day but we explained that we would very much like to travel to Medellin the next morning.

The CO suggested that we come back later that afternoon check (no promises). It was ready!

Ours was a K-3 application.
