Why would you want to buy a House in her name? Get the Title in your Name, your'e
paying for it!

You can get married in Colombia. What is required from you to marry in Colombia depends on the Notary you will use in Colombia (along with the priest if marrying in a church). Your fiance needs to shop around for a Notary in her town, find one she likes, and have them explain precisely what they require from you.

After being married, you can apply for a spousal visa. After receiving the spousal visa, you can stay in Colombia permanently, though the visa will have to be renewed every couple of years. With the visa, you will need to get a cedula, which is a national identity card. For you, it will be called a cedula extranejera (sp?) With the cedula, you will be able to get a bank account and other things like that.

As far as buying property, I strongly suggest you buy it in your name. I won't lecture you on why - just do that. You could buy a place without any of the above things being accomplished. I would suggest purchasing a place even before you get married. That is just protecting yourself if something bad happens in the unforeseeable future.

I don't know your family circumstances and how or why your family will send $2000 usd to you monthly, but that is a lot of money in Colombia if you are willing to live a modest but comfortable existence. My mother in law lives on about 1/4 of that per month. $2000 is roughly 4 million pesos a month. If you are in a city like Bogota even, that is plenty of money to live IF you guys do not have the goal of living in a fancy neighborhood or expensive house. In secondary cities like Villavicencio, Bucaramanga, Tunja, Armenia, etc .... you guys would live quite well compared to the average person.

Note* with the spousal visa you will have, you will NOT be allowed to work or own a business. That requires a different visa or a sort of addendum to a spousal visa. This is of course possible, but requires much more effort on your part. To find details, contact a Colombian embassy here in the US, or check out their website and look for visa requirements.

BEWARE of gold diggers.
