headline thats an interesting headline you have there, reading it sounds like police/US attack anyone who is an immigrant which is actually all of us who live here since we are all immigrants directly or indirectly.

however, your headline is of course incorrect. The people marching on May day which is a communist labor celebration day are illegal persona and thats the key word ILLEGAL. Which means actually they really shouldnt even be marching because they actaully shouldnt even be here.

Witnesses say that several of the illegals began throwing bottles of water, rocks and other items at the police, some of the illegals were spitting on the police.

Also witnesses say they think the police response was excessive, but i wonder how you would respond is some one was throwing things at you and spitting on you?
it appears that more police were taken to the hospital emergency than illegals so more police were injured that illegals. so whose abusing who?

I wonder what it would be like if illegal americans were marching in mexican and began throwing things at the mexican police, i wonder how they would respond, try to picture that.

What about the media? I for one I'm 100% against illegal inmigration and against the rally. That being said there was no reason at all for the police to beat the media up. The police didn't just react against the illegal demonstrators, they attacked reporters holding cameras and microphones and injured a few journalists from channel's 2 and 9 with reputable credentials, it was impossible for the police to mistake them for demonstrators. They also attacked telemundo's TV crew who were set up with TV cameras. A woman reporter was intentionally and maliciously knocked to the ground and hit directly into the ribs and breast. She's filing a lawsuit against the LAPD, good for her, I hope she wins. The media is there to document the event only. That type of behavior from the police is unexcusable.

cops well the cops were a little to agressive in my opinion, however, every body knows you dont mess with LAPD, that police department has had its problems over the years and i dont think they take any crap from anyone.
If you are gonna throw things and spit on the cops you can expect to recieve a ass whippin.
I dont know what the deal was with the reporters , I think those cops start moving and anyone in their way including reporters are gonna get run over.
Another interesting thing is that many of the cops doing the pushing were mexican americans.

and in California you have to have reason to believe the person is HIV+ or actual aids...then they can be tested for it. Filing depends on the results of the tests....

and this topic has already been posted...this one is #2....

Not even taking the HIV thing into account, isn't spitting on a cop considered battery? I believe it is in Florida, and I would assume most states have similar statutes.

Miguel_Clavo says on May 6, 2007, 12:04:

Yes, it is bookable as a battery, but considering all the HIVers and AIDS people in nearby San Francisco, the feeling and sensitivities of these people, the local DA's in SCC, at least, are hesitant to push the issue and file on it...Spitting by citizen A onto the person of citizen B is a simple battery, because the saliva made contact with the person of Citizen B..same as if he had punced the guy......but just to force an unwilling suspect to give a blood sample against his will is a real paperwork maze.......unless, of course, the cop becomes HIV+, and dies, then they will attend the cops funeral, making it a point to be seen at the funeral by the media-boneheads...funny thing, is lots of media get spit on and cry to the police as if they had been punked by Magic Johnson......

Its not hard to see that something similar to the powerful prison gangs in Brazil, which are now sophisticated and powerful enough to take on the government and win, developing in Los Angeles.

I think the combination of a rapidly growing population, cutting of government services once provided to the undocumented population, and the harsh measures used against them will help the Mexican prison gangs recruit more members, and develop into something like the PCC in Brazil.

"during the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil until 1985, criminals learned the language and organising methods of left-wing revolutionaries with whom they shared prison cells.

The same merging of criminal and political activities has been observed in other Latin American countries. "

Record numbers strip for mass nudity photographer Tunick in Mexico City - 18,000 Mexicans Get Nude!

goin_south says on May 6, 2007, 19:38:

MEXICO CITY - A record 18,000 people took off their clothes to pose for U.S. photographic artist Spencer Tunick on Sunday in Mexico City's Zocalo square, the heart of the ancient Aztec empire.

Tunick, who has raised eyebrows by staging mass nude photo shoots in cities from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Caracas, smashed his previous record of 7,000 volunteers set in 2003 in Barcelona, Spain.

Directing with a megaphone, Tunick shot a series of pictures with his Mexican models simultaneously raising their arms, then lying on their backs in the square as well as another scene on a side street with volunteers arranged in the shape of an arrow.

Hundreds of police kept nosy onlookers away during the nippy early-morning shoot, and a no-fly zone was declared above the plaza.

One of the world's biggest and most imposing squares, the Zocalo is framed by a cathedral, city hall and the National Palace official seat of government, which is adorned with murals by Diego Rivera.

A ruined temple next to it was once the center of the Aztec civilization and was used for worship and human sacrifice. Spanish conquistadors used bricks from the temple to help build their own capital.

Becoming less prudish?
Some participants said the massive turnout showed that Mexicans, at least in the capital, were becoming less prudish.

Mexicans are not used to showing skin. Most men wear shorts only while on vacation, and women tend not to put on miniskirts because of unwanted whistles and stares.

"This event proves that really we're not such a conservative society anymore. We're freeing ourselves of taboos," said Fabiola Herrera, a 30-year-old university professor who volunteered to strip, along with her boyfriend.

The capital of the world's second-biggest Catholic nation, where tough-guy masculinity and family loyalty are held dear, has recently challenged some important traditions.

Last month, Mexico City legislators legalized abortion in defiance of criticism from church officials.
Also, gay couples are getting hitched in civil ceremonies thanks to recently passed laws in the capital, and lawmakers plan to debate whether to legalize euthanasia.

‘They’re losing dignity’
Not all Mexicans were impressed by the spectacle staged by Tunick, who was refused permission to hold his nude photo shoot at the famed Teotihuacan pyramids outside the capital.

"They're losing dignity as men and women," said 63-year-old Armando Pineda, leaning against the cathedral and watching the now-dressed models leave the plaza. "It's an offense against the church."

The Mexico City metropolitan area is home to some 18 million people.

Past Prez Ronald Reagan is a Big Cause Of the Current Illegal Immigration(ALIEN) problem. Thank Reagan for his failed 80s IRCA Reforms where he did not fund the Enforcement provision of his Bill for Today's Immigration problem. He in essence left the Barn Door wide open for more illegals to "Come on in". So the Illegal Population has climbed from 2 million in the late 80s when he gave "Amnesty" to 12-20 Million Today,,,Make Sure Señor Reagan is included in the Blame Game for the current Immigration problem! Bush, along with several Dem and Republican Legislators, want MORE Amnesty without addressing, like Reagan, the Enforcement aspect of his bill. Thats why Republicans with clearer minds are prevailing and not giving Bush's Bill the light of Day,,,As well they should not,,,Like Iraq, don't expect any meaningful action on Immigration until after he leaves office in 2008. With this morning's Report on the fact his Popularity is tanking at 28% and heading lower yet, he is a wounded lame duck of a Leader,,,His tanking popularity could set a new all time Low amongst US Presidents,,,

There seems to be a lot of social unrest in Mexico these days. Mexico's democratic experiment seems to be polarizing the society and only causing more chaos. People have also been talking about the 'Colombianization' of Mexico for a few years now as the drug sindicates start to take on the government directly. I think this will probably result in higher illegal immigration into the US.

Scotty A friend of mine marched at that protest last week and he saw first hand everything. The media didn't exaggerate the reponse of the LAPD, who have a reputation for heavy-handed tactics and totally over responded.

Instead of randomly clubbing and indiscriminately shooting at all the protesters, they should have simply focused on the small group who were actually throwing objects and wedged them away from everyone else who were simply expressing their opinion. The vast majority of those causing the problem were anarchists and were all dressed in typical anarchist garb, black pants/shirts and bandanas. But instead of doing that the L.A.P.D. went into Kent State Mode and forgot that their primary purpose is to preserve law and order, not when they feel like it, but in every instance that requires a police presence.

The L.A.P.D. has a reputation as an agency that belives in shooting first and asking questions later. They have had to pay out millions for abusing the civil rights of individuals because they couldn't rein in their cowboy mentality. They let their uniform and authority cloud their judgement.

Not even five years ago almost the exact same thing happened at the Democractic Convention. The police lost their cool and started bashing and shooting everyone in sight, including journalists, which resulted in multiple lawsuits. The city government, the P.D. and the local media sat down together and hammered out a protocol to prevent that from ever happening again. The agreement included language that set aside a media tent for journalists to do their job, which includes covering protests. During the melee at the park this last week, police actually went inside the tent and were hitting journalists with their batons. Guys carrying cameras and reporters holding microphones were unceremoniously knocked down and clubbed for doing their job. The police can't distinguish between a reporter and an anarachist?

Whatever your feeling is about immmigration, legal or otherwise, the fact is that in the United States people have the right to express their views and protest. This isn't Natzi Germany or Facist Spain, this is the U.S. and we are entitled under the constitution to express our concious - no matter what your nationality.
