Uribe displays eloquence and composure in Bariloche

August 28th, 2009

President Alvaro Uribe accompanied by Minister of Foreign Relations, Jaime Bermudez (pictured right) in Bariloche, Argentina.

A calm, collected President Alvaro Uribe once again showed his skills as an orator and responded eloquently and reasonably to verbal attacks from Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela’s leaders during the Unasur Summit in Argentina.

Uribe managed to balance a discussion in which he held the upper hand from the very beginning, thanks in part to early diplomatic strategies like his “mute tour” of Latin America. As an added bonus, Uribe managed to get issues like weapons and drug trafficking and illegal armed groups addressed in the final declaration, an unprecedented occurrence given the differences that exist among the nations regarding these issues.

I voted for Obama....so what? And no...I would not want Uribe in the white house, I would rather have Obama. Uribe was just Bush's puppet.

Simon says on Aug 30, 2009, 20:55:

Why the fok was Uribe Bush's puppet? Because he's a stalwart enemy of terrorists? Uribe would make an excellent president anywhere!

although i'm not the staunchest supporter of president uribe, i DO KNOW, he's in the tiger's eye and has the bull by the horns.....which i am prompted to add, is no mean feat. managing and dealing with colombia and it's multitude of problems is no job for the feint hearted and weak. and although i am totally against the use of the paras to deal with many of colombia's harsh realities, i do recognize that the president is keeping the ship on track.

it would be a feather in his cap to let the world see that he is equally focused on programs for the displaced and poor, as these seem to always be the last issue on the adjenda...and yet these very groups make up 90 plus percent of colombia's population.

I do not have to know much espanol to support this statement. You do not stand that tall as a man with eloquence or composure in the face of such overwhelming opposition unless your heart, your head, and your motives allow you to.

Regardless of what the detractors say, his preformance continues to show him a a leader with some balls!

The fact that he contracted the swine flu shows that he is just a man at best, and at best just a man.

I dont really care much for Uribe, but I also dont care much for the candidates for the 2010 election, so I guess Colombia is better off with Uribe for now. He has done a good job against the FARC, but really has done nothing with the paramilitaries that are here that dont help the rising homeless population. It is his personal vengeance against the FARC that many call his strong point.

I recall reading that his father was killed by the FARC when he was young, so I imagine his determination to crush them is deeply rooted and justified. I commend him for that, because if I were in his shoes I'd want to do the same thing.

Hi dwmte, aquí estoy sufriendo en un sitio terrible, Portland Oregon :) Just kidding, but I still miss Llanogrande.

Sorry about the fridge charly, that's cruel and unusual punishment.

Anyway, the question in colombia is not whether one is pro- or anti-Uribe. The issue is how the fuck did de country become so corrupted? I think it doesn't matter who is in power.
