OK, lets not talk of Uribe per say as he hasn't been found guilty yet... lets talk of la U. I find it funny that on one side it shows that they bought off Yidis' vote, further on is that she's the only one to come out but one could imagine how many more people have had their votes or absences paid for. Then there's parapolitica where the opposition was exterminated and people were extorted into voting a certain way. People are afraid to speak their minds in their own country and therefore are fleeing, I see all them refugees here in Canada, very miserable. But why should I care if I can go to Colombia and do as I please?? why should I care if I could easily stay in Calgary for the rest of my life and not even have to look back at the country my parents and brother were born in?

Also I thought we were past this 'leftie' garbage, why don't you do your due diligence and actually define what that means... I'm right handed, play center midfield, snowboard goofy, believe the government is responsible to its people instead of the people being responsible to its government...

Funny thing that Romy feels like asnwering a question that was addressed to Buggy.
Also kind of funny same guys diverts discussion to something else.
We know you don`t like the current president Romy. Heck, I don`t like much the what he has done selling goverment companies (Electric plants, Telecom among others). I think the economy is doing partially b/c of security (which brings nice things on the side), but NO ONE, absolutely NOBODY (well, CASSINI will disgree anyway...) can deny he`s done a lot of good for Locombia, hence his atypical popularity.

Ok, Income tax (on a pension, does one pay taxes on it?) All French people I know complain about French taxes (income, sales, property, I don´t know) but they agree taxes are to high (must be to support a socialist state. Nothing wrong with that model, but don´t complain. You can´t keep the cake and eat it).

Thank God I´m not from the Police, why do you ask me, do you have any skeletons Cassini?

And finally, yes, I´m poor. What else would I be doing in a forum called POOR BUT HAPPY. (Meaning people don´t complain, especially not to the hand who´s giving you the security to retire in Pereira or wherever you claim you are going).

By the way Cassini, if you would be taxed twice... why moving to Colombia? Stay there ;)

Not to mention they didn't reside over a term(s) where their national currency tanked and/or their country lost its national respect wordwide.

I'm with you Minini, the accuracy of that poll needs to be challenged,,,Bush rated way too high

Why is it so difficult for you rednecks to understand that being a good president and having a high aprobation in the polls is not the same? Hitler had a very high aprobation when german troops took Poland and France.

robi666 says on Jun 25, 2008, 02:41:

"Hitler had a very high aprobation when german troops took Poland and France."

Dolfi, I don't think you can compare a strict and violent dictatorship to a democracy.
You could say, "Colombian people are brainwashed by media", as an example, if you like, or you can say that those polls are faked.

Nevertheless those people are free to say "Uribe f*** off" if they want, or decide to vote for him or not.

So, having an high approbation rate in a democracy is a good (not perfect) measure of a President being accepted by and represents his people (that's being a good president, to some extents).

Now, a deeper investigation on why there's seem to be a correlation between the "development" of social level of a Country and the variety of political opinions of its people should be done, as well.

Colombia is a country trying to get out an historical emergency, with a main issue on security. This surely does not help the full development of a democratic debate and feeds bad sentiments toward opposition.
PBH is a clear example of it.

The fact that that many people in Colombia approve of him means that colombians by an overwhelming majority believe he is doing a good job and that is the matters, what some dumbf at #k euro thinks about it is really irrelevant.

Why is the accuracy of a poll suspect when some one does NOT agree with it? But being a liberal means never having to worry about the facts. Facts can be uncomfortable, and of course, anything that makes anyone uncomfortable is a violation of your constitutional rights. The only fact that matters is the foundational fact that you can only feel what is right, so if a fact happens to contradict your feelings, obviously that fact must be wrong. Sentio, ergo rectum.

The man is very, very popular here in Colombia-all the past polling shows the same thing so is everything in the past years suspect. I don't think so.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Jun 25, 2008, 08:48:

Most polls of this type reflect the point-in-time opinion of urban dwellers with fixed line telephone connections. There has been research in the US about the bias in polls in the "do not call" and cell phone era and I imagine the problem is compounded in Colombia where they typically draw from five urban centers, they only talk to people with fixed lines and some of those people may be intimidated. That doesn't mean the overall trend changes, but when I see a margin of error of plus or minus three percent, I'm very skeptical about that claim to accuracy.

It is inarguable that liberals – in the modern American sense of the word – are the most flawless human beings on the planet. They are smarter, better-educated, wealthier, kinder and morally superior to those benighted quasi-Neanderthals called conservatives, who would like nothing better than to drag society back to the Middle Ages, or, according to some high-minded liberal theorists, the Iron Age.

Now, if you don't mind, I should probably go exercise my newfound moral superiority. The world won't save itself, after all – not without the fount of all that is good and wise and smart and cute, which is to say, me.
