Uribe joke

A teacher told her pupils to compose a story about Uribe and his re-election.

When the children had finished, she told Pepito to read his piece.

He said, ‘I have a cat and yesterday she had five kittens and they are all Uribe supporters.’

When the teacher saw that Pepito knew that even the kittens were pro-Uribe, she suggested to the school principal that he call the Inspector of the Ministry of Education to come and hear the composition.

A few days later, the inspector arrived at the school and the teacher told Pepito to read what he had written.

And he read: I have a cat and a few days ago, she had five kittens and three of them support Uribe’s re-election.

Hearing this, the teacher said, ‘Pepito, the first time you read your composition, you said that all the kittens were Uribe supporters – what happened?’

And Pepito replied: ‘well, since then, two of them have opened their eyes.’

funny... I like Mockus when he talks about the culture of legality and how colombia will never be what we want it to be if we dont change the culture of illegality that we have learned. Education is the way...

I agree, Lucia Rojas... And Mockus can point to his experience in promoting civic education in Bogota, which became a much more liveable place, so much so that it gained the title "Athens of South America", under the revolving administrations of two men who were not interested in stealing money: Peñalosa and Mockus. Long live honest liberal politicians.

Correction: It may have just started promoting itself as the "Athens..." again. Gator or Sam Salmon (I think) posted long ago that the Athens bit dates back to the late 19th century when a priest used it in a graduation speech or at a groundbreaking ceremony for a school.

jejejej yeah it was the old athens before... jeje, now its the new Athens, with "cultura ciudadana" playing an important role. He says we have to be educated in Legality and Respect del Derecho a la Vida for all this Tlc's and apertura and stuff to really work and for Colombia to give a huge step forward.

My candidates, ranked order: Ingrid, Mockus, Wolf, Colombiche I would support Mockus for president, as my second choice after Ingrid. Wolf is a distant third. I think Colombia needs a woman president. I would vote for Colombiche, too.

Nothing so grandiose, Colombiche... What I really want to do is help my people and I think the best way would be an appointment to the Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias en la Universidad de Caldas. They are doing great work on recognizing and fighting our greatest enemy: the nematodes and their populations affecting the cultivarieties of platanos. The most devastating nematodes to Musa spp. are the endoparasites Radopholus similis and Pratylenchus coffeae and the semiendoparasite Helicotylenchus multicinctus.

That's enough scientific jargon... I just want to give my life in service to my compatriotas, los plátanos.

Done Deal Uribe will win. Mockus has a beard and there will be some nasty mud slinging regarding under cover photos of Mockus and OJ. Soon he will be exiled.

All politicians are crooks. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. Things are on the up and up in CO since Uribe has been making speeches.

However I'm the first to admit I know little, so please don't respond to me in this or any other thread for that matter.

NOT a done deal I've heard that rival candidates are concocting a poison that will make a slim moustache (bozo paletero) grow on Uribe's face, and will make his feet smell (pecueca). Along with a mullet (greñita de futbolista paisa) it would send Uribe straight into exile.

On a more serious note, Colombia's history is full of electoral reversals. I wouldn't bet against Uribe, but I wouldn't bet on his victory either, not just yet.

I heard one of the rival candidates broke ranks.... and sold the formula for the evil potion to the FARC. If you already have pecueca, do you suppose it will work in reverse? (sorry I have no serious notes, I'm feeling silly tonight)

jejjeje.. you are right.. I couldnt care less, but you should've seen how long they talked about here and how offended people were. It was a popular subject for a while... the same thing happened when he threw a glass of water on Serpa when they were having some kind of debate.
It was very funny. I was very happy to see Serpa all wet.

But yeah Platano is right... it is probably a done deal for Uribe.

.... If the elections were held today...Uribe would have to really, really drop the ball in order for his reelection bid to fail.

A close race may be possible, or even Uribe's defeat, but not without significant changes in the political environment...yet the clock is already ticking and they are nowhere to be found...

This is all coming from someone that considers himself a moderately "anti-Uribe" guy, btw.

I once came face-to-face with Mockus in the Cali airport... I was able to "namaste" him (put my hands together prayerfully in front of my chest and bow to him... namaste means "the divine in me salutes the divine in you").

Then I said in the best Spanish I could muster: "¡Apruebo tu uso del agua bendita pedagógica!"

He smiled, gave me a namaste, and continued on his way. From that simple fifteen-second encounter I was happy for a long time... in fact, I'm still happy!
