urgent passport help!!!

hello there. soo here's the deal. i am a dual citizen (american and colombian) and i got back from medellin about a month ago having had some passport troubles at the airport when i was leaving. when i got to medellin, i presented my american passport and it was no trouble at all. then when i was leaving, to my utmost surprise, a not so kind man told me that i was required to have my colombian passport in order to exit the country. but since i didn't have it they let me through with a warning that if i didnt have it next time i would get a fine. i have my colombian passport, but it expires february 16, 2008. i'm planning on traveling to colombia for study and i want to know what the requirement is on passport expiration in colombia. if that sounds confusing, basically what i want to know is how many months of "life" does my colombian passport have to have when i enter colombia. if i were to enter colombia say, on october 16, that would mean my passport has 4 months of life. i read on the university webpage that your colombian passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your time of entrance. does anyone know if this is true? can anyone help me? thank you

Just go down to the local Colombian Consulate, they´ll renew your passport the same day for $100 bucks... You´ll have your valid Colombian passport for 10 years....

I may be way out in left field, but I wouldn't think that the same rules apply for Colombian nationals and foreigners.

Call the embassy - my guess is, you coud enter enter Colombia the day before your Colombian passport expires, sin problema...

1. Enter on the US Passport-get your 60 days.
2. Immediately get your Colombian passport renewed-much cheaper in Colombia
3. If you plan on using a Colombian passport best to have your Cedúla handy and it, Cedúla, would make entry into the school much smoother
4. You could also have boarding problems if you try and board with a Colombian passport that is close to expiring.

I am confused-what does having a Colombian passport have to do with studying in Colombia?
