United States Immigration Policy

All of our Amercian immigration policies stem from a
faulty immigration policy enacted by the America Indian.

O well.

LOL! And the Chibchas fell down on the job of protecting their territory after Cristóbal Colón arrived on the west coast of Chocó around 1502. By 1536-1538 it was pretty much over. Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada had conquered the Colombian interior, defeating the Chibchas.

It's "hard work" protecting borders which don't really exist in reality. Borders are only imaginary lines... arbitrarily defined lines... that don't really exist if you view the Planet Earth from outer space. And we fight over them! ¡Qué locura!

We stole the U.S. fair and square from the injuns. lol Seriously, immigration is an outdated concept. We don't need or want more people coming here to live. Whites, blacks, browns, etc. it doesn't matter. Come and visit but go home when your vacation is over.

US immigration policies... are based on pure selfishness and ignorance. I got mine, but you can-t get yours. This is the kind of xenophobic thinking that will eventually bring down the country. It is already mediocre at best, and the future is bleak.

I don't mind taking all comers but I can't help but notice how tough Mexico is on accepting immigrants from Central America. Also, all government and many other jobs are reserved for Mexican born citizens. They're real hypocrites when it comes to immigration.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Miguel_Clavo says on May 25, 2006, 16:21:

Now you went and did it….you got me started on IT again! First off, the USA is not a welfare country, and we have no obligation to make all people in the world "all that they can be"; and as such, has every right to control WHO, WHEN, HOW, and HOW MANY people immigrate to the US. It is the equivalent of a felony in the US to sneak into Mexico illegally. That means that after the federales and local cops beat the shit out of you, take your money and belongings, and generally treat you like a red-headed step-child, then they deport your ass A.S.A.P. As a matter of fact, MOST countries have criminalized illegal immigration, whereas in the US the first offense is civil in nature, second and subsequent offenses are criminal as felonies and subject to time with Bubba in the prison. =( ..this blatant hypocrisy committed by Mexico and other countries whining that they have a God given right to enter the US without any restrictions is almost hilarious. Every country has the right to secure its borders, control the rate of entry and who comes in. That way, every low life drug dealer, rapist, child molester, thief, and subversive ducks (just kidding platano!...i couldn’t resist!) can be prevented entry to prey on US victims and children.

“ I got mine….” …what a serving of caca that is…..i am all for legal immigration, which would show that you have a respect for the laws of the country you want to enter. But to sneak in, or to overstay your visa after stating that you had no intention of remaining in the US, abuse the other US Visas (one local asshole brought in women on the H1B1 visa, promising them hitech work, put them to work at his real estate empire for pennies and as hookers!!!))) then I have no sympathy for you one bit.
Wait in line with the rest of the worlds law-abiding applicants for legal immigration, then the US will be a land of opportunity for you if you are willing to work for it. Come here illegally, break our laws, then I hope you get caught and they deport your ass, AFTER you do your time in company of Bubba in your 10x10 cell with stainless steel appliances…..there are people in many countries, including Colombia, who are patiently waiting their turn for the right to legally enter the US and not have to worry about getting deported. Replace the illegal law-violating ones (from all countries) with legal law-abiding ones (from all countries). May be a logistical nightmare, but Rome was not built in one day either. Eventually, it will catch up with many of them, like that female magazine editor found out recently….see ya in 10 years, babyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

There are some who whine and complain that there should be no borders, let everyone in to the US, free drugs (free crack for the kiddies!) and group hugs for all, but the first time a member of their family gets molested or raped by a child molester or rapist who just walked right in our country, they are the first ones to demand the heads of the people responsible for allowing that pedophile or rapist in unrestricted. “but that could never happen to me!”…rrrrrrigghtttt….

Brody……I have 35 days, after my work day today, to retire from 27.5 years of career in law enforcement in California. Then, after ensuring my fat pension check is auto-deposited, I will begin living in Cartagena and Manizales starting mid-august or so. Work hard, now play hard!!! then i will visit all those places in colombia that platano recommends.....(the Truth: to try and figure out where he gets those crazy ideas from!!!)... Jajajajaja…..enough of the California Rat Race for me! I want to live with friendly people for a change! Its almost a hostile living environment in the Silicon Valley of California…….

Miguel_Clavo "hit the nail on the head" had to laugh at that. Seriously though, I agree that every country has the right to decide who comes in and who doesn't. That is actually why I think we need to tread carefully or all we will do is build up anti american sentiment in alot of the world, and it may become a problem for us to see beautiful countries like Colombia. I also agree that we don't have any obligation to the rest of the world, not legal obligations anway. But we should feel morally obligated to many countries in the Americas. Not to say that everyone south of the US gets a free pass, but we should be investing heavily in those countries, not just in their military and drug enforcement. I think we need a reformed immigration policy where countries in the Americas have preffered status. We need to get rid of the obvious political, and sometimes racial, slant of our immigration policy (think Cuba v. Haiti).

I don’t want to come across as a protectionist, nor to signal for the wagons to encircle because the “Illegals” are coming. Without a doubt, Latinos, including the “lazy, spanglish-speaking Mexican borrachos”, have the biggest “hearts” than any other race in the world. Believe me when I say that in a state that now is 51% Latino (California 2006), there are some really hard-working, law-abiding, God-fearing, wonderful Mexicans. But given that on the Latino “food chain”, people rank them near the bottom….refer to the stereotypical description above which I hear all the time. And it is not difficult to spot some “native born” Americans who don’t deserve to be US citizens when their behavior is considered. I would gladly swap some illegals for the undeserving. However, I do not reward bad behavior (illegally entered people), and punish good behavior (patiently-waiting legal residents and patiently-waiting immigrant applicants). You enter this country legally by waiting in line like everyone else, I will welcome you with open arms. You force yourself upon the US, I will be the first ones to boot your ass out. If you came to the US illegally, and years later you get caught and deported, then guess what, Sherlock??? You brought it upon yourself, no one else. You knew that you would get deported eventually if you got caught. And the kicker is that for a majority of the people who have been here for 8+ years, probably would have been allowed in legally by now!! Now, you get deported, cannot apply again for 10 years, then you get in back of the line to wait your turn. Well, unless you are one of the younger illegal aliens, you might just have lost the battle because of your chronological clock….tick, tick, tick……because if you get in, you probably are looking at, what? 20 years?????? Good choice you made. NOT!!

A good example would be if you were at home with your family eating dinner. (“Quality Time”). Someone whom you really don’t know has been staying in one of your rooms as kind of a guest. You really didn’t want to kick him/her out because he/she is only trying to survive in your world. But then, after a while, He/She starts rearranging the furniture, talking shit to your you, spouse, and other family members about how the food sucks, yells, marches, protests, runs around telling your family that they are nothing but racists, AND that he has a “right” to be there. Now, honestly, I don’t know of ANYONE who would not kick that MFer to the curb in a NY minute!

I am a big believer of personal responsibility. If your life sucks, then it is up to you to make it better. If you need to educate yourself to get a better job, then do it, you know where the schools are. But Americans seem to have this idea that the purpose of government is to make your life one smooth sailing trip. Helloooooo!!!!!! Not true. YOU are responsible for YOU, not the government. Governments provide basic infrastructural needs for a society. Too many Twinkies as a child? Too many McDonalds cheeseburgers? Never breast fed either? Didn’t have a “happy” childhood??? Too Bad! Get Over It! And take control over your life. Didn’t pass the high school exit exam in California, and so you wont be getting your diploma??? Pobrecitos!! Well, you dumbshit, study harder next time and quit blaming it on someone or something else!!! You took the test, you failed it, so If you think that you are NOT stupid, then pass it next time. You choose to illegally enter the US and knew that you might possibly get deported? Too bad! Now get in line behind the guy who has been waiting in line…

Oh well, enough of my time on the soapbox!! =) Damn! Wheres my beer~!~~~! Jejejej…

Hey Miguel You'll be happy to Know Senator Arlen Spector(R-Pa) inserted a last minute Amendment into the Senate Immigration Reform Bill passed today that says the US" has to notify Mexico" of and when we , the USA, start to construct the Fence in the Bill. Imagine that, we, who are footing the Bill for the fence, has to notify Mexico, who pays nothing towards the Fence and recieves 17 Billion yearly in remittances from mexican citizens, who entered the US illegally. Lets see what happens when the rubber meets the road in the House and Jim Sensenbrenner(R-wisc) when the House gets the bill. Many House members are cruising for a battle of battles on this and Vow the bill will never see the light of day as long as Amnesty as a reward for those who entered the US illegally, is in the Bill. Should be fun!

Hey MiamiMike! What ever happend to the principle of the.. Good Neighbor Fence??? I cant see how the Senate version will be rectified with the House version....they are opposites of each other....Kennedy should just fall back to his familys tradition of being alcoholics, rapists, and drunk-driving involuntary manslaughter-types..talk about a dysfunctional family! I believe he put in an offer for Michael Jacksons Neverland Ranch and plans to retire there!! jajajaj....Amnesty, Road to Citizenship for illegals, call it what you want, but it is still rewarding illegal behavior. And, just in 1986, didnt we give Amnesty to all the illegals in the country at that time, swearing up and down that it was a one-time never again Amnesty Program?? Hmm....la memoria del pollo, cierto? Short term memory loss.....were too busy watching American Idol to be bothered with such trivial shit...

Blue...but it is the potential that is possessed, once given an oppurtunity to thrive under an enviroment consisting of an education and training that we need to keep in mind...i am curious what the IQ was of the original immigrants to this country were when there was the big push to immigrate here....but, farmworker types are only estimated at 25% of the immigrants illegal immigrants...in CA there are many blue collar and white collar illegals, Ones that have been here much longer, and have taken advantage of "Dont Ask, Dont Tell" school admission policies. But, since we are the melting pot, most of the protesters waving the Mexican flag nowadays seem to ignore the fact that within 2 generations, their offspring will not identify with Mexico, but the USA..like the 2nd and 3rd generation Mexicans currently in the USA feel. English will be their preferred and native language, not Spanish. Most Mexican-Americans born here that i know actually resent the "mojados" that arrive on a daily basis. LA RAZA (like Mexico is a race in itself???) is falling apart!! I believe by protesting like idiots, they are shooting themselves in the foot and only hurting their cause, not helping it. And how many of those protesters are registered to vote?? 5%? 10%?...

Kat1...my point exactly....do we as a country want to a) reward good behavior and punish bad behavior or b) reward bad behavior and punish good behavior??? I love that other recent post on PBH dealing with waiting in lines...no one likes a line cutter..same thing here..."La encrucijada Migratoria" makes it more personal and has the agenda for seeking sympathy, and is great for selling newpapers, commercials, etc. My family immigrated to the US from Mexico, i am a 2nd generation spanglish speaker...the wait was over 8 years....and to reward someone for cutting in line?? no way, jose. sorry, Charlie! Thats why it is important to launch the illegals like a rocket to allow the law-abiding applicants in. Can you imagine how quickly the waiting applicants would be allowed entry if the illegal ones were kicked out? the quota for each country could be raised, employers could not threaten employees with deportation for asking for basic employee rights..tell your sister that good things comes to those who wait.....to live under the threat of deportation is not a good thing...and i cant see how a path to citizenship for illegals will become law....Civilized people live by rules and adherence to them.

Miguel_Clavo says on May 26, 2006, 10:13:

Pre-Testing for Entrance to the US.....my thoughts... What year was the IQ test actually developed?

I can see a Literacy Test in the language of the country of origin, because there are alot of High IQ people in the world who dont speak English...that could really benefit the US...i have issues when the wealthy people of al-qaeda supporting countries can waltz right into the US and buy all of their multimillion dollar summer homes, while supporting assholes who say their god has told them to kill all the infidels....but i agree that prior to citizenship one needs, for all practical living purposes, a certain command of the predominant language. I dont agree as a pre-requisite to entrance. no more than i would expect Colombia to require a command of spanish prior to entrance. to obtain citizenship of a new country, i would be expected to know of the culture, the customs, the language, and especially the laws....I dont feel that it is in the best interest of the US as a whole to have two languages. Look at the problems countries like Canada have over the "official" language..Fortunately , the US doesnt have that problem...I see nothing wrong with the government assisting non-english speaker in certain basic things, voter pamphlets, medical and health information, etc. But certainly not to the point where the non-english speaker doesnt even need to speak english. It should not be a substitute for learning english. People in Colombia laugh at me when they call my name out and i respond "Mande"...its a dead giveaway to being mexican, and not Colombian...and because i like spicy picante food is one of the other clues!!jajajaja....but if i go to another country, it is in my best interest to do as they do until i know whats up.....

G5....you are correct on that....i grew up where John Wayne was idolized! hahaha....but although i am a registered Republican, i do not vote straight party line.....for example, the republican governor of CA Arnold needs to go back to making moron movies and leave politics alone...not his specialty....he keeps repeatedly proving that. But i also support some ideas that could be considered liberal and democratic...i vote issues based on the merits...(but please dont tell my mother, she would kick my asssssss!!!!! jajajaja...)

gee...the oldgringo can't recall.. problems in canada? over two official languages??
the only place there has been any issue is montreal,
and this is nothing compared to the situation in miami.
in canada, the two language law serves to protect the ability of
all canadians to access to legal proccess and information parity.
on matters of immigration, the applicant has two options, not one.
all RCMP are bilingual.
most canadians are unaffected by official bilingual policy in
their english-speaking lives, other than they have to endure endless
bilingual recordings on many telephone enqiries to institutions.

what the oldgringo would like to know?:
would all the law enforcement types be inclined to arrest and send to jail, an oldgringo who happened to light up a big blunt of santa marta gold and offered to pass it around in the discreet privacy of
of a yacht party off the coast of cartagena?

because 50 million people are not strongly enough encouraged to adopt english, critical mass will soon enough force two languages to be recognized officially.

it is american presumption that falls short.

they presume that the hispanics will want to join the historical tide of immigrants from everywhere who have historically all learned, within one generation, english.
however, this generation is lazy,..and we got new immigrant mentality, not to say hispanic immigrants are lazy, it's just the lack of political leadership on the language issue, and on the drug issue, that makes life so merry in gringolandia.

Well my own preference would be very little or no immigration at all...at least for several years. If immigrants are allowed in, impose the standards at the beginning of the process rather than the end. English literacy and whatever "citzenship" criteria they now use should be required before entry. This will weed out the non-serious and improve the immigrant quality.

When Arnold first came into office, we showed him how to surf along the beaches in California……he was a quick learner, and now applies it at work….he rides only the political waves!!!! And changes direction if he sees a higher wave!!! Jajaja…

Old Gringo…I am definitely not an expert on Colombia, nor have I lived there. Only beef I have with Canada is that the #$ at *!!&% Edmonton Oilers treated my San Jose Sharks like a red-headed step-child in the last round of Stanley Cup playoffs!!! Jjajajaja…I just remember that part of Canada had at one time wanted to split the country according to language and allegiance. I would love to be enlightened on Canada by the Canadians here on PBH, but even in Europe the dual-language countries have presented their own problems. Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, and other cities with high amounts of Spanish-speakers living there doesn’t exactly equate to a majority of US citizens. Most Asians, Blacks, Eastern and Western Europeans in the US are not interested in dual languages. You wont see me protesting in Colombia bitching and whining about Colombias “responsibility” to make my life easier by doing everything in a bi-lingual manner and my right to live and work there. Ha! I would be the Jimmy Hoffa of Colombia! Much easier for 12,000,000 immigrants to learn English than the rest to learn Spanish. But, if one was above average in intellect and was searching for a job, being multilingual is the way to go….

what the oldgringo would like to know?:
would all the law enforcement types be inclined to arrest and send to jail, an oldgringo who happened to light up a big blunt of santa marta gold and offered to pass it around in the discreet privacy of a yacht party off the coast of cartagena? OG

The only way you would have to worry about me booking a room with Bubba for you would be if your boat was to drift to California, run aground, and someone found a bazillion kilos of wacky weed and called the police!! And all that would have to happen within the next 35 days! Hahah…I can remember when possession of even less than a gram of weed was a felony and you would do prison time for it! Times have changed, and my position has never been as a law maker nor definer, I only enforce the laws that the people of the state want enforced…Do we have discretion? Of course we do….but with me, it usually wound up being in favor of the citizens…..there is always the “Letter of the law, and the Spirit of the Law” to be considered….and believe it or not, when I was a teenager I used to grow my own! But after becoming a cop, I thought it was hypocritical for me to arrest people for doing the same thing I was doing, so I made a decision that I needed a job more than I needed to get high!
But on the topic of generational learning of English, I would point out in CA, where 51% are Latino, that it has already been shown that Mexican immigrants learn English just as fast and assimilate at the same rate as other nationalities. (out of necessity of course) What has happened here is that the locally born Mexican-Americans do not really identify with Mexico…I see myself as an American, who has roots in Mexico and European countries, not as a Mexican who lives in America. America is my country, and I respect my family’s roots and traditions, but you won’t see me draping a Mexican flag on the hood of my car during Cinco de Mayo. And the sad thing here, is very Mexicans here that are 2nd and 3rd generation Mexicans and born in the US could not even tell you what Cinco de Mayo is celebrating! They only know it’s a big ass party with lots of beer and a chance to show off your prison tattoos!!! .There are a significant amount of non-spanish speaking Mexicans here that don’t even know any Mexican customs, traditions, and have never even been there!! But give them a time to party, and they are all down for that! The Old gets replaced by the New every time!!! And the Old gets forgotten….With regards to the drug war, in my humble and personal opinion (as opposed to the company line opinion) there are serious flaws in our methods of enforcment. Its all the collateral damage that occurs that makes enforcement much more necessary. But, after viewing the results of some drug abuse (destroyed lives, destroyed families, kidnapping, criminal gangs, violence and death in all aspects, the abuse of women as a commodity, etc) on first hand basis over the past 27 years, I can honestly say there has to be limits and restrictions. Too much of a good thing can be bad.

Kat1….same thing in Los Angeles, San Jose, and San Diego in California…Since the missionaries were here, all the major cities are in Spanish….California is more Latino-based than most people realize. But there are a lot of Viet and other Asian communities here as well. And they are the faster growing political power here, not the Hispanics. They just simply are not the vocal types. Most Hispanics here don’t ever bother to register to vote. Sad, but true…..Asians on the other hand are the first ones to the polls!!!

Just my opinion...

If present trends continue, California is expected to be majority Latino by 2040. Texas will get there faster by a decade, expected to be majority Latino by 2030. In four states, Hawaii, California, Texas and New Mexico, white people are now a minority.

Immigrants and asylum seekers have a cakewalk in the U.S. compared to the Netherlands:

www.government.nl/policy/bronnen/regeerakkoord/42_17371.jsp

Proficiency in the Dutch language is required BEFORE they immigrate, there is a civics exam upon arrival, etc. In the U.S. none of that is necessary unless one is applying for citizenship.

I'm certainly not worried about it.

okay miguelito... you are on the invite list for the yacht party.
the oldgringo loves to take on the convenient hipocracy
of all the ex-enforcers, who now, after many years of acting on behalf of your boss,...ie. paycheck..you claim.."most of the time" you used your discretion to be nice...
it means..you NEVER busted a kid for pot"...please...
the oldgringo cannot forget all those blue meanies on venice beach
hassling all the kids who just wanted to have a nice day.
at least the oldgringos' kids got to see first hand the difference between your (LAPD) "discretion"...and that which is prevalent here.
otherwise...you sound like you deserve a big hit off a fresh santa marta blunt, and the oldgringo wishes you a safe retirement in ctg.

Og...i was raised in LA, but never was employed by LAPD.... Actually, i was one of those coppers that was looking for bigger fish.....not the simple potheads...way too much paperwork for me for such a minor arrest....now, you drive around in a 26 foot Rental truck full of pot and not fertilizer, and your name is not Timothy McVey, then were talking....if it fell into my lap...but i was more interested in the bad boys who liked to play with guns, hurt/kill people, child molesters, rapists, and Democrats (hahaha..just kidding)...that sort of element...drugs were never really my cup of tea.....i tended to the violent types.....criminal organizations etc....My discretion was more of the "dump that shit out and i wont take your pothead ass to the pokey"....hahahaha...i would spend 4 hours processing the guy when in a few seconds i could accomplish the same thing the courts would do, just without the $25 fine.....Every time i travel between Cartagena and Barranquilla i get stopped at the police checkpoints.....must look like Bill Gates or something...hahaha...they try to roll me for $$ but i usually tell them to wash the car i am in then i will pay them! Other wise No way Jose! hahahah....no sense of humor those guys..havent had to pay yet!!! pisses my friends off to no end! hahahah....Personally, i dont think that pot is any worse than alcohol...just less trips to the bathroom, but a higher food bill!!!!......

Just my opinion...

We are all the same.... In the end people are just trying to meet their needs starting from the bottom of Malow's hierarchy of needs. No race has better people or more educated or more destructive people, each race has a little bit of everything. We are just people living in the same world and we cannot try to separate each other by languages or in this case documents or try to decide who has the right to live where or stay where and who doesn't or who was here first. I think that we should evolve from survival of the fitness techniques.

Everybody pretty much gets in... The problem with US immigration policy is that just about everybody gets in sooner or later if they do not die in the Sonora desertor on a capsized boat from the DR en route to Puerto Rico.

Legally or illegally, those that really try are getting in sooner or later. Marriage, family reunification or by crrossing the border.

You cannot have any real POLICY without enforcement and their is little enforcement.

AMERICA will not be pretty when there are 500 millionn people HERE!

I saw an interview with a group in Arizona who believe if legislation fails to secure the border that all options should be put on the table. These include: invading Mexico, summary execution by firing squad, land mines, and small tactical nuclear weapons. Tough group. lol

Effective Enforcement at Secure Borders is a Necessity. I agree, JS2, that the southern border needs to be secured. I believe a physical barrier like the wall concept is the only way to effectively secure the border, along with proactive enforcement. You can be all hi-tech with cameras, pilotless planes, and human radar/laser, and all, but if you dont have the bodies to hook them up, whats the point? A carefully controlled and regulated method of legal immigration is needed and desired. keep the pedophiles, drugdealers, wife-beaters, rapists, etc, from entering, while at the same time allowing respectable, hardworking, honest, and law-abiding people and families in. People who will contribute positively to the fabric of American society. Lord knows we have enough lazy and dishonest knuckleheads as it is.

"These include: invading Mexico, summary execution by firing squad, land mines, and small tactical nuclear weapons." Hey blue, sounds like a bunch of folks from the movie "One flew over the cuckoos nest"!!! jajjajaj....actually, maybe we can select some of these nutjobs, deport their sorry asses, and let some sane people in...kind of like an annual "Immigration Draft" ...jajajajjaj......i will get my "deportation wish list" started!..jejejejeje..
