Union libre... how long it takes to get it done????

How long it takes to get it done and obtain a permit to stay for 2 years??? I have read other posts about this topic but none of them mentioned how long it takes...
What documents do I need? Or is my passport enough???

thanks :-)

In Colombia Law 54 of 1990, Civil Code, known as the Patrimonial Deed between Permanent Partners (Common Law Marriage), by which a man and a woman, without being married, provided they make a permanent communal life, cohabit as a couple for more than two years and act in all respect as if they are married. All their possessions are shared at 50% each except those owned before the relationship began. To avoid this problem do a "liquidación de sociedad conyugal" but please, on this step consult an attorney first. There are a lot of ins and outs to this but you need a good Colombian attorney to explain the pitfalls and options available.

The most important thing is the declaration, before a Colombian notary, made buy each of you that certifies that yours is a common law marriage and you consider yourselves to be permanent partners. Without this in hand don't even waste your time and effort. The relationship needs to be more than casual and long-term.

you require a document that states you have lived with the mate as minimum 2 years.

There many things to discuss before filling the petition to obtain the declaration of common law marriage including if the mate has children under 18 years old or if he has previous marriage.

Since no one knows what the facts are you really need to consult with a Colombian attorney. It will take as long as MRE desires and you have the proper paper work and apostilles. In these cases almost every situation is different.

No your passport is NOT enough;

Pay Dr. Rada his fee or find another attorney. It is apparent you are not equipped to handle this matter.
