Bensark,
If you fill out the Bensark,
If you fill out the tax excemption form, your exit tax will be $69K.
You might need to pay more if you only have your passport stamped for say 30 or 60 days and you overstayed without getting an extension from DAS.

Exentos de impuesto de salida: Sean residentes en el exterior de visita o tránsito en Colombia cuando la permanencia en el país no exceda de 180 días.
I stayed for a month and a bit, I enter Colombia with my British passport, my husband stay in Colombia for 3 and half weeks and neither of us had to paid any tax exit.

Exempt from tax exit:
Be resident in the exterior, visit or transit in Colombia when the permanency in the country does not exceed of 180 days.

On all 3 of my visits now Kat I've had to pay exit tax. 32 days and the other two visits were for 20 days.
All 3 times I filled out the tax excemption form (this just means that I had to pay $69K, rather than if I didn't fill out the form I would have to pay around $110K...I think). So in the true sense, it is not really a tax excemption more like a tax reduction.
I'm surprised that you didn't have to pay any tax Kat.

I'm really not sure Kat. I'm just back last week and the queue of people there just to get the tax excemption form was massive. A lot of people waiting to get the form, to reduce the amount of tax they had to pay.
Maybe they just realised that you were the famous Kat, moderator at PBH and you got through for free...hahaha

LOL Mc Gringo, maybe the guy was a member of PBH?

really, I wasn't the one who went I paid the tax it was my husband and they told him there was nothing to paid, and there was no queue when usually is, from now on we are taking that route to Colombia, the hours are comfortable, and the trip is good, I though Miami airport being as bad as Houston or New York but No it was a nice Airport and everything was quick.

We flew with British Airways to Miami and from There with AA to Bogota.

How much did it cost you for the flights Kat?
I usually fly from Glasgow - Newark - Bogota with Continental. I think its maybe a bit expensive but not too bad. Normally £650 - £800.

One bit of advice Bensark, just going on what happened to me on one of my visits. Get there early! One time I was in the airport 3 hours before my flight was due to leave and I just made it. The queue for the tax excemption was massive, then they pulled me to the side to search my checking luggage, then the queue to check in and then the queue at DAS.
After DAS the military fully searched my hand luggage and then the airport security fully searched my hand luggage again in the departure waiting area.
I know it sounds a bit excessive but I always give myself 3 - 3.5 hours at El Dorado just to be on the safe side. Although it can go the other way, I have been in the airport with not much of a queue for the tax, been waved right through at the check in desk and minimal searches and I had plenty of time to spare.
But personally I'd rather hang around a bit than cough up the price of another flight.
Cheers.

On the way back

the flight leaves at 14:45 from bogota
