My friend was denied a fiancee visa for the UK. He's currently back in NYC cooling his heels waiting on a work visa. In general UK immigration is still a hell of a lot easier than US immigration though. They seem to really take the hue of one's skin into consideration though. My friend is sort of a rich chocolate brown BTW.

Sorry Rubiazo have to disagree with you there about that. My brother in law has that type of "rich chocolate brown" skin tone and he was given a spouse visa for the UK to join my sister here.

I think the plus is to just marry in Colombia, which is cheaper, so that the Colombian family can attend and then if they want to, can reaffirm their vows in the UK. But it all depends on luck because my sister and him could not afford to set up home together from the start and they always said their intention was to live at my parents home. The only ban was on claiming benefits, which no one from my family has ever done and he immediately got his national insurance number and started to work.

Effective from Feb 2005. no foreigner can marry in the UK if they are subject to immigration control without some type of permission that is granted by the Home Office. Someone with a turist visa of less than 6 months can not marry, they must have a fiance/e visa or show that they have idefinate leave to reamain in the country.

home office/certificate of approval

We are doing that right now....
The new laws came into effect in February 2005

We have sent lots of documentation to them, it can take between 3 and 13 weeks to process our certificate, then we have 3 months to get married.
If we don't sort it out, we have to apply for another certificate and give the home office £135...again ....yikes

I've booked a provisional date for the wedding, I'm praying everything gets sorted in time.

I also need to find a translator as mi novio's birth certificate neeeds to be translated. Can anyone here offer any help?

Has anyone else here gone through or is going through this process?, please send me a message or post

thanks
