Typical day in Cali

Hey everyone. I have a quick question. What do most people do on a Sunday afternoon in Cali, Colombia. Do people go shopping or go to a cafe and talk. Just wondering. I remember going to a little cafe in Sao Paulo that was really cool just to meet people and pratice my Portugese. Does Cali have the same kind of thing?

different strokes for different folks Some people stay at home and watch TV all Sunday, because they are too scared to go out of their homes. Some others, especially families, go shopping or just "pasear" in the malls. Lots of people spend Sunday afternoons lounging around swimming pools with a cold beer in the hand. Some spend the afternoon at netcafes chatting or sending mail. Before, when it was safer, people liked to drive up to km.18 for a change of temperature (it's around 12 degrees centigrade there), for a cup of hot chocolate and an arepa. Or to spend the afternoon in Pance, or by any other nearby rivers with a picnic lunch (grilled chicken, papas con sal....)and wade in the pools of cold running water. More...

They go to a finca Thousands evacuate the cities and head to fincas ("farms") near quaint villages in the country-side. Many own houses in the country-side, and those who don't gather friends and family and rent one together for the weekend.

they still do? Last time I was in Cali my relatives or friends wouldn't take me anywhere outside if the city itself, because they considered it too risky. They didn't go anywhere themselves either, except to the country clubs to swim, play a little golf or tennis, or just walk on the grounds.
I was under the impression that people are not leaving the city in great numbers during the weekends any longer except on special holidays when the main roads were under heavy military patrol ans surveillance.

Fincas Desidiera,

From my experience people continue to go to thier fincas. Although one Colombian friend told me it would be too risky for me to go to his finca, he traveled there frequently. While other Colombians can't understand why I refuse to go to thier fincas located in areas that I am not sure are safe. My impression is that areas that are safe for Colombians to travel to, are not necessarily safe for foriegners, like me, to travel to. Initially I never left the city but have since found villages outside the city (Bogota and Medellin) that are safe for foriegners to travel to.

A typical sunday in cali A typical day in Cali
Traditionally sunday is the day of the bike,so most people like to go bike riding as the police block some of the roads around the city,or other things people like to do are walk the mountain to the three crosses,or go to the river, which is very popular with families.
weekends most familes do their weekly shopping,so the big stores like Exito,Ley's are very crowed.
I have just returned from Cali after spending the last month there,my third time and I would say my perfect sunday is climbing the mountain of the three crosses, than to the river and than lunch at chipi chape ,and maybe a bit of nightlife.
Colombian people are are not scared to go out or nor should they be,Cali is just as safe a city as any in the world, and in most cases it is safer than most cites,it has tourist police everywhere you look, coming from Sydney,Australia I have always felt safe in Cali
