There always checking my Venti Mil Notes...from the Taxi and somestores thats why using my Mastercard as much as possible for POS Transactions so don't have to bother..

Can't you notice the fakes before going to the bank So you have a chance to dump them if you have to...

I know thats evil but many people do that..

I received a Fake 20 mil note several years ago in BQA and while laying on the Beach in Puerto Colombia wondering what to do with it, a Toothless Beggar asked me for a handout and Voila, the problem of what to with it was solved. I gave this fellow the 20 Mil Note and he skipped down the beach in 7th Heaven!! Often wondered what his reaction was when he went to Cash it and he was told in was a Fake; A Kodak Moment! LOL

I don't know if they still refuse, but a while back churches in Cali stopped giving change from the collection baskets because when they came around the pews to recieve the money, some people would give large fake bills and ask for a lot of change back and thus laundering their fake pesos.

ok the 20,000 note has all those features but one important feather is rubbing it together where is has an embossed circle ...you fold the bill inward at the center of the circle long ways and rub the two sides together...you need to feel a file "lima" sound between you two fingers....that's hard to fake...if it rubs me the wrong way I don't take the note........there is also a trick for 10,000 but too hard to explain on here...the 50,000 go to the top right hand corner on the guys collar run your finger or thumb across the collar you should feel a file or "lima".....when I go to the bank I check all my bills before I leave the bank...if I don't like any bill I get them to exchange it right away.

I had no idea about the good fake currency here. Last I checked in my travel book (which was published early last year), it said most of the fake currency is easy to spot here. I guess I'd better start looking more closely.

S.America are professionals at this...Many years ago that started in Peru..it was counterfiet dollars..but experiencing in Colombia there own currency being counterfiet is interesting...I use my CC as much as I can for POS Transactions and try not to deal in Cash..If this keeps up more and more establishments will be happy to accept Cards instead of cash...Problem with that is the IVA....and the government would love it too called CONTROL ...

I once got some bills out of an atm that no one wanted...the color was,nt quite right....when i noticed the next day i tryed to take them back to the bank where i got them.Of course they said ..oh no you could,nt have gotten them here....ended up eating the loss...

I use so little cash and I guess I don't watch enough news that a couple of years ago I got a bunch of 20s (USD) out of the ATM, saw these tiny yellow "20" marks on the back, and assumed a thermal anti-counterfeiting feature had done its job and I was holding fake money.

I walk into a bank for the first time in years, wait my turn in line, and hand over my counterfeit dollars. They smiled politely and told me those were the "new" dollars and the little yellow 20s were supposed to be there. I bet if I had turned my back on the way out they would have been laughing their asses off.

Medellin there taking cards many places now...Even the clothing stores in Centro...but you need to pay IVA if you do so I pay Cash so I don't have to pay the IVA>....I remember when the new bills come out on the twenties...The new series are smaller..I was getting out of the Taxi in Prado Centro with my GF and was walking up the stairs to an apartment and that damn taxi driver pulled over and came up all the way to the apartment and started slamming on the door.. After explaining to him these are the new series showed him the rest of the bills that came from Citibank and the receipt from the ATM and he apologized after calling somebody to verify on his cellphone...That freaked me out that Taxi driver was upset I almost pushed him down the fokin stairs..GF pulled me away and starting talking..thats when made a call to his central hub I guess for taxis..

do what my colombian buddies always used to do to me. They'd offer to pay the bar/restaurant tab (should have been a sign right there, since when do they ever do that), but they'd give me the money to pay while they went to the bathroom, went outside, whatever. The person I paid just took a look at a touristy gringo and never a second glance at the bill. They did this plenty of times until I found out and laughed my ass off.

So go somewhere people don't know you, speak little spanish and pass them off.
