There's nothing wrong with having a heated arguing.. the odd insult is fine too. My other favorite board is a sailing board, and guess how the mods handle their jobs there? VERY well, primarily because it is completely unmoderated.

And before anyone makes any wrong assumptions- the board is for cruising sailors, NOT Newport types. The publisher of the rag that sponsors the board is a 360 lb ex-biker, covered in ink.

Several years ago, they created an off-topic area that pretty much takes the brunt of the shit storms, even though there are no mods to move posts/threads into the off topic area. I never go there, into the off-topic zone, the place scares me. ;)

It fascinates me why that board remains so civil, while this one seems always to have an active feud or two. I can't figure it out. That group is every bit as diverse as this one- although maybe the average age is older....no way of knowing, only a guess on my part.

I guess my only point is - it strikes me that it IS possible to have a place like this without having monthly storms because someone doesn't like someone else. Why can't folks figure out that whatever pleasure they take in name-calling and underhanded insults only makes them look silly and immature? And with all respect, Vic and GIB - you guys are smart enough to not play this game with those people who delight in pushing your buttons.
