Trying to find the proper spelling of a section/area of Medellin

There is a section of Medellin that lays next to Salvador but not as far as Buenos Aires. It is not an official "barrio" named place...It is been said that it is the worst place in the city...I was taken by the place and wandered around in there for awhile and will visit more when I return. The name sounds like "Nequi Taol" People pronounce it like
"Nicki Towel"
Any help would be much appreciated with the actual name and how you spell it...many homeless, much despair..
Peace

It's located here and technically in Colon although fully recognized as it's own barrio.

It's not all that bad during the day and just up bit into Salvador (white church steeple) is an awesome view. I live about a 10 minute walk from there.

Is that where you see a whole bunch of balconies with people hanging out with clothes and bedsheets hanging over their head while you're driving on the Avenida Oriental? If it is, that place is nasty.

diana, when you leave san diego and go behind the big rock fountain heading into downtown, if you turn up off of oriental sort of towards the flower market, you're driving through nikitau. yep, it's nasty. i used to have a bronze foundry i used there and it was basically unpleasant just to go there to get things done. there's no place you want to eat, sit down, drink, or do the doo doo....it's like bario triste...it's a coin toss as to which is worse.

I remember we took the bus from La Playa I believe it was to drop us off in El Parque del Poblado and it went through that area. It's kind of a sad place actually.

Its sad and its nasty, however I liked it, probably because I am sad and nasty. I do like to go into some strange places....along with all the negatives that go along with a place like this..I find it surreal and grounding watching dirty little kids thoroughly enjoy a 3/4 deflated soccer ball for many hours.
I drove down to San Diego and bought 2 new ones with a pump and a bunch of candy and brought it back to them.
Wasn't much, but to them for that moment it was everything. Would like to do more directly for them but have had bad experiences doing too much at once and not using my head.

That's a great gesture Catfish, I'm sure the kids loved it. Heck even my husband's friends are all psyched about a soccer ball he's taking with him when he goes to Colombia. Plus you gave them candy... score!

I did not mention that I after I threw the candy and soccer balls into the middle of them I ran like hell..I did not get to see much of the enjoyment but did hear the crack of automatic weaponry..
