TRM just broke under 2000-1

True that exchange houses are around 1900-1 but TRM, what you would get for an ATM withdrawal just broke under 2000-1. I wonder if it will hold under 2000 or if psychologically, 2000 may be a barrier and traders will not let it sink below 2000. I dunno but 800-1 back in 1992 still is a long way off if the peso comes all the way back in. Living down here, I do not see any strife yet from the strong peso. Maybe that´s out in FARC & finca land. Everyone still seems to have plata in the big cities.

Exporters are becoming very concerned and are putting lots of pressure on the government. We really lucked out when we bought the apartmento four years ago. I have also heard that anyone who has made an advance purchase of property(watch out Cartagena) will be in for a big surprise on that contract.

I think inflation is very hard to gague in Colombia because the prices change so much. I buy gas, gasoline, cooking oil, eggs, cheese, etc. all in HUGE quantities for the restaurant and i can never get over how much the prices girate. The percent changes are rediculous

I paid one month for a "bulto" of sugar $84000 and then 6 weeks later $59000

A canasta of 30 eggs goes up and down between $3500 and $7000

Tomatoes went thru the sine curve as well where I was paying $1500/kilo, it went to $3000 and now we´re at $2000 all in a 6 month period.

A 2500g block of cheese slices (which i buy 10 blocks at a time) has gone from $13000 6 months ago to $22500 and now back to $13500.

Gasoline, cooking oil and gas go only in one direction. UP!

salt thankfully is always dirt cheap here by the bulto.

Arepas (minitela) thankfully have been 600 pesos for a pack of 10 wholesale for about 2 years now.

French fries also have not moved too much

Dolarización Senator Gabriel Zapata Correa from Antioquía is proposing the "Dolarización del peso" following the experience of Ecuador.

Spigrimace-Diesel is still about .25 per gallon cheaper In Col then here in the Miami area,Using a 2000CP exchange rate. I payed $2.89 per gallon last night(north miami) for Diesel for my Car last night. I noticed when I passed the Chevron station on 5th street and Michigan in Miami Beach yesterday Premium was $3.65, Midgrade,$3.55 and Reg $3.44/gal. Andres Oppenheimer, the Miami Herlad's Latin AMerican Columnist had a large and controversial article onthe Price of Gas in the US (not for me though, he was spot on IMHO) in Sunday's Miami Herald paper.
