LOL What you think somone is going to pluck you off a plane? - you'd even be fine travelling along within Colombia (with some basic traveller-smarts), nevermind the trip there. Relax & enjoy, learn some spanish.

I think you'll be pleasantly suprised and would encourage you to book yourself into a hostel in another city so you can check out the solo travel side of things - it's really funm, and you are rarely ever along since it's easy (at hostels) to hook up with travellers from other parts.

My family is from Pereira and most are still there, though I'm from the splinter group from Cali :) You will have a great time there because they have that traditional Paisa hospitality, where everybody you meet will go out of their way to make sure you go back to Brazil and brag how cool the people from Pereira are.

Near the main square there are nice hotels; check out the LP book, they list some. In periera, it is a great trip to visit the Ecotermales. I went to the San Vicente ones, and had a great day. They have natural saunas and then the hot pools. You can stay there O/N if you want.

I recommend you take a bus trip and visit Manizales - a great town close by, and also to Armenia. From Armenia, you can go to Salento, which is a nice town in the mountains - horse back riding etc. For discos, I cant remember the name, but Periera is actually two cities that are joined (think thats how it goes), you cross the bridge and up the mountain and they have an area with bars and restaurants overlooking the city lights - really good place.
