Trip to colombia

Hola, como estas, i just found this sight tonight and love it!!! I am 21 years old from Australia who just came back colombia. I went to Bogota, cali, san andres and medellin. I spent most of my time in Medellin. I want to say that the counrty is awosome!!! and can not wait to go back. Despite where people are at in life and what they have they are still remain in good spirits. This country is looking up!! due to the new president. Colombia is an untapped counrty that people of this world should see. Is there any other Australians who are on here that have been to colombia.

Do you mean: you need other Australians' comments, otherwise you wouldnt consider the source trustworthy?
But its a kind of a hack travelling from Aus to Colombia.
Dis you fly with stopover in Argentina or Chile?

Like To Check It Out I'm not from down under but I'd like to check it out someday, Susan. I went to Colombia for the first time last November and I loved it too. I'm from the USA and I went there to visit a woman who has since become my fiancee. From talking to my fiancee I have come to the opinion that viewing Colombia as a tourist is far different than living there as a citizen. I did also notice the same thing that you commented on about people generally having an up-beat attitude regardless of their station in life. That was very refreshing for me as I come from a country where people have cars at the age of 16 and yet all they do is bitch and complain. :)

i just got back after 6 months there hola susan, i'm from new zealand and i've just left after using my max 6 months tourist visa. no there aren't many aussies or kiwis there, i didn't meet any, but probably in bogota you'll find em. i met mainly people from usa, canada, europe and the uk. but from what i hear there are now a lot of colombians studying in aussie so you might make some friends there. personally i found that i could not or would not want to live full time in colombia despite how much i love the place, however i am looking at a business that may enable me to travel there frequently and live in nz. other foreigners find they are happy living there. i am jetlagged so will cut it short but will do some posts about my trip in the coming days.

and don't worry about chutzpah...no vale la pena.

Hi Susan I agree with you I am from the United States I went to Colombia almost three years ago for the first time and I loved it. I like it so much I have gone three to four times a year. If you get a chance to go during Christmas / New year go to Cali or one of the other cities or towns that have "Ferias". I went last year and loved it. The food, culture, people, place it is a beautiful place.

Im Australian and I live here.

what was the question¿

Susan, When I lived in Bogota two years ago I was friendly with a few Australians. Actually now that I think of it I knew two others.

Now i live in San Gil, doesn't seem like you passed through this part and other than a new family from Hong Kong I am the only foriegner.

I couldn't help but comment (yes it should be kept in politics) "This country is looking up!! due to the new president."

I guess you have this view due to the fact

"I spent most of my time in Medellin."

Not everyone in Colombia would agree on this

I am colombian, and though we are all aware that the situation is far from perfect, I can say that what weeksy said is still the sentiment of the majority of colombians. At least as far as safety is concerned.

You may be right, Litost but the posters on PBH tend to be FARC sympathizers.

I'm an Aussie who has been there about 11 times - awsome country. Am heading back in Jul for three weeks. There is even an Aussie pub now near Zona Rosa in Bogota. Have only met one other Aussie traveling there in my times in country.

Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!! Offloading when others are gloating!!!

Chutzpah, to get there was long.

Interesting to know that travelling through NZ, then up to the northern hemisphere, USA and later back down with many stop overs is cheaper.
Well, its up to you if you want a 2 day journey or a 1 day journey.

Gday Just had 2 Aussies from Perth stay at my guest house Monday night. They arrived in the morning went rafting and then preceeded to buy myslef and the guides beers and bottles of guardo all day and night. We then headed out for a game of Tejo which got a bit messy with the amount of alcohol consumed. The next morning we were up at 6 to raft one of the bigger rivers before heading back to the bar where they bought more drinks for everyone.

It was nice to have a day in colombia with a bit of an Aussie taste to it.

Weeksy I went back to Aus 3 years ago for a wedding but all up Ive been gone for 6. Only just under 2 years in colombia.

Yeah I miss Australia, I haven't seen my only niece, the mighty tigers are having thier best season in my life time, i miss Australian girls, decent Vegetarian food, my mates, having a greater variety than 3 different types of beer, Seeing a decent band at the pub. I could go on all day.

But what I have in Colombia at the moment makes up for what I miss and I think I'll end up in Australia in the end. I head back in November for a wedding so it will nice to see everyone then but its so damn expensive to fly there (especially in comparison to what my work brings in)

Adrimm - When are you passing this way again, I´ll buy you a beer.

Any Aussie tips on the cheapest flights?
I kind of figured via Chile, NZ was the cheapest.

Weeksy I`ll PM you on the politics Q. I shouldn't have brought it up in this thread.

cheapest way home to OZ carter, it is good to hear that dispite missing Australia, other parts of colombia make up for it. i miss alot of things from colombia at the moment, such as the food, words cannot describe how much i miss it. miss the beautiful country side and the climate. San andres was sick and kicked arse as i stayed in a place with its own private beach.

if you are under 25 u can buy a ticket through STA travel and fly from bogota to LA to NZ then sydney or where ever u want to go in Australia. This ticket for me return was 2400. I think the way u might want to go might be the same price.

carter i will have to come to your guest house when i go there next year. Must have been so good to have aussies staying there. would have brought memories!!!

yeah just PM me about the politics thing. In today paper actually there was an article on what the president is trying to do, like moving the rebels back into normal society. it is a good read!!! will fill in on what it said later.
