Traveling on the Colombian Coast I will be visiting Colombia for two weeks in May 2004. I tentatively wish to visit Cartagena, Santa Marta and San Andres Island. I have a few questions.

1. First I was wondering how safe it is to travel from Barranquilla to Santa Marta by car or tourist bus? I will of course travel during the day.

2. One key focus of my trip is doing some great Caribbean scuba diving. Can anyone recommend any experienced scuba diving buddies, dive master, scuba shops or cheap scuba diving resorts.

3. In the evening I hope to find some good nightlife and Colombian music. Any advice on the best music venues and clubs in Cartagena, Barranquillan and Santa Marta? I am looking for Latin jazz, Afro-Colombian.

For the record my tentative dates for the visit is 23 May - 4 June. As I mentioned I am interested in Colombian music, literature and poetry. Not to mention tasty local eats of course. Therefore if any local Colombians with common interests feel free to get in touch with me directly at . Maybe we can have a cup of coffee together, meal or become lifelong friends. Who knows?

Just go to avenida sexta. It would be good if your hotel was near that area. The club strip is only that street and it is rather safe. I plan to be there myself from the 12 or march for spring break. Tight trip.

Arthall I was on the same boat you are now.. in a few days youll be in Colombia waiting for the adventure. A tip of advise:
To do b4 trip:
1. Sleep, sleep, sleep.
2. pack nice carton of Cigs (not a phillip morris one!)You'll see why when u get there.
3. I forgot.

When you get to Cali: A good rule of thumb; Girls ain't calling you so you better hit the phone. Oh what? Yes i meant you get urself a Callphone.. Yes Sir you get a prepaid cellphone. "OJO" make sure is BellShouth not Ola or COmcel. best way to keep in touch.
BTW any incoming callis free: that includes out of Col. too. So when you fam or firneds call you form you hometown you can tlak for Hours..


There is a Ncie hotel in the South but I dont have the name fore it. There are also nice hotels in the North which are very close to the best places in town- I Recomend Hotel Intercontinental! or Hotel Don Jaime.
For the party scene, youll have options up the wazoo. Remember Cali is full or suprises and even when u think you'va seen it all.
