Traveling to Colombia by bus or train from the USA

Hello experienced, kind people. Is anyone aware of the feasibility of travel by bus and/or train to Colombia from the United States? I know it is long and arduous. Is it possible is all? And if so, can someone point me in the correct direction in order to find out specific info for places to travel to and where to buy tickets and rates and stuff? Thanks so much and keep up the love,

Happy Happy Happy Thanks so much Don Negro. I am so happy that you've given me this info. It's not so much the money as it is the adventure. Take care,
Caspin

Try hitch-hiking. Sounds like a lot of fun. I've always wanted to do it, but the part of my brain that keeps me from doing stupid things never lets me.

Fly Panama to Barranquilla or Medellin Bus from Mexico City to Panama, yes.
From there the only normal way is to fly.

Google for "magic bus" and there's links and stuff about bus travel through Mexico. I was told I was a nutcase when I mentioned to someone that I thought it would be cool to travel by bus from Canada to Panama. Alteast I know I'm not the only one out there. I wish I could go overland all the way to South America. hmmm.. maybe I should start another thread on the Darien Gap? teehehee.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;)

cheers - babygirl

You cannot get through Panama on a bus or a train Why not? Because it doesn't exist. You have to backpack through dense terrain. And you must pay certain tribes along the way. Once in Colombia from the North, you are required then to stop at one of two points-of-entries to get your passort stamped.

Once inside Colombia, you won't find trains. You can go by bus. But plan something like that carefully. This site is littered with those that have traveled by bus in Colombia, including myself, but think it through. There are risks and dangers. Have fun!

Thanks to the reply posts Thanks guys, for the info and the concern. Hitch-hiking does sound like fun. Jack Kerouac would have done it. Anybody have anymore info about finding a Yacht from Panama to Colombia? That sounds like the only tricky part. Also, Don Negro has said that a return ticket is required. I've heard that it is written that it is required but that it's not really a big deal and that they won't hassle you about it. Any info on this? Thanks again,
Caspin
PS. Here is a link that I found that talks about sailboat travel from Colon, Panama to Cartagena, Colombia. Looks like fun http://www.casaviena.com/sanblasisland.htm

im half english and I always travelled in bus around Colombia, its a lot safer now, no danger came my way. everyone needs to stop talking badly about Colombia and saying how theres so many dangers, yes colombia has danger if you put yourself in it by looking afraid all the time, every country has danger, i feel safer in Bogota than in London. Theres so much security now in Colombia and it's pushed a lot of danger away
