traveling from Panama into Colombia

I'm planning on traveling from Panama into Colombia. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on crossing the border. I'm trying to avoid flying because of the money factor eventhough I'm aware that it's probably the safest way. If anyone has any experiences in this trip I would love to hear how they went about it. Thanks

Try searching This topic has been beaten to death here. Search the site for Darien Gap and Panama to Colombia by boat or other related topics. Several people have posted how to do it by boat relatively easily and without insane risk.

Good luck.

One if By Land; Two if By Sea! Forget about the land journey, the hoof and mouth issues over the years have prohibited an ajoining highway system from becomming a reality also perhaps an economical matter, i.e. who's going to pay for it! So, as most everyone will advise, go it by air or by sea. Later DM

Panama to Colombia Boatygringo. The chepest way to go is by the back packer boats that leave from Portobelo in Panama and go to Cartagena with a short stop in the San Blas Islands about $250.00 US. includes food. Just ask around in Portobelo.

$250! There's no way $250 US for a boat is cheaper than simply flying. One way flights from Panama to BOG or Cartagena are right around $200

but a flight doesn't include a boat trip around beautiful Islands and beaches which for many gringos who I have met doing this have said is a highlight of there travels.
