Travel to Bojaya

Hey, I'm a student/photographer looking to travel to Bojaya and I am wondering what is the best route. I've gotten conflicting responses from other people who I know who know Colombia. I know you can only reach there by boat, but where is the best place to launch from? How long will it take? With regards to safety, what is the safest (obviously relative) route? From what I see looking at the maps, a boat from outside Medellin may work best (if it exists), but I think a popular(ish) route would be from outside Quibdo, and then north to Bellavista, and then to Bojaya. I know it's random, and many people may not know, but just looking for some information. Thanks all

A bit out of the way... I've never been there, and I see it's in the middle of the Chocó, so it's not the safest area of Colombia by any means.

I had a look at my map of Colombia, and don't see how you could take a boat from Medellín. It definitely looks as if you would need to go to Quibdó, and take a boat northwards up the river.

Are you trying to visit Parque Nacional Las Orquideas?

Well... This town is in the middle of Choco and safety is a mild concern for me, as it is anywhere in Colombia (I've gone to Putumayo twice and stayed with some very threatened people in Barranca), but I agree that going up the river Atrato from Quibdo seems like the only viable option. The Medellin option (as I'll call it) was that I would have to travel outside the city to a river (I can't find the department map I had on my comp) that then connects to the Rio Atrato and go in that way. That way I feel is more dangerous, while it is shorter, goes through some gnarlier territory. The Rio Atrato can be dangerous, but because of its size and usage, I feel will be less dangerous. Still, comments are welcome. I am looking to go to Bojaya, and in fact have never heard of that park as well.
