Travel tips for Cartagena?

Hey everyone! I've just booked a flight for my third trip to Colombia. I've been to Bogota twice now and for this third trip my Colombian boyfriend and I have decided to meet in Cartagena for a romantic getaway. Basically I'm looking to hear from people who have visited / lived there what you think is worth doing / seeing / eating / living (hotel suggestions). Neither of us have ever been to Cartagena before and don't really know what to expect, so any suggestions are much appreciated.

Cartagena tips
Favorite restaurant : seafood at Socorro in Getsemani..the old or the new location..addicted to the fish consumme they give you with each meal..pretty, not cheap for Colombia but not expensive by US standards

Favorite small, pretty but inexpensive hotel: Casa de las Palmas..they are on the colombiainfo website or can be googled..

Favorite thing to do..go with the Cultura del Mar (local environmental tourism group) to the Islands to go snorkeling..especially in the enchanted lagoon at night. They are in Getsemani (right behind the above hotel) or can be reached at 310-714-2683

Walking around the Old City in the evenings..

Ron Medellin Does any body knows where I can buy Ron Medellin in Chicago besides Joe's store... It's hard to find this product around here.

Stay in Boca Grande area. Nicest and safest place to stay. All major hotels are there, Ritz, Hilton, etc. Plus full of tourist. Definitly go to the Old City.

Travel tips for Cartagena Check out: www.cartagenainfo.net.

The site has about 1,500 pages (if printed) and more than 2,000 photos, all about Cartagena. The Portal is in both English and Spanish.

Good luck.

You'll love Cartagena.

jim bone
