Travel questions

Hi I´m sure this has been discussed before, but would be happy if anyone can inform me, if they know. How long can one stay in Colombia when arriving as a tourist? is it three months or six months, and if one has to renew a temporary stay, is it a simple process, or a lengthy, costly bureaucratic nightmare? Do they quizz you at the airport on how long you´re staying, why you´re there etc.. or do they waive you through? I don´t think the expense of going to Colombia from Spain makes it worthwhile if it´s to be for a month or two.

Also, do people rent rooms out or share flats in Bogota or Cartagena, like they do in London, Madrid or NYC? Would anyone on this site be prepared to rent a room for a few days to a traveller, like me (I´m only making an inquiry, no concrete plans yet)? I find hotels can be distressing, unless it´s the Ritz.

Thanks in advance for your help..

questions Ronamanda: Cl.76 No.102 All I know is that it's near a fairly new mall called Portal de la 80. I'm not sure what else is nearby.

Ali: Not sure about the living situation that you're asking, but I know a little about the travel. For a Tourist, you normally get either a 60 day or 90 day stamp in your passport. If you want to extend it for more time, you would have to go to a DAS office (where/which one I'm not sure of). You can extend it how ever many times you need to, to get a full 6 months. As previously posted by sydneygirl, you can only stay for 6 months **Per Year** as a tourist.

When you get to the Airport in Bogota they just ask standard questions. "Is your stay for Buisness or Pleasure?" "How long are you staying for?" ... stuff like that. I've been asked the same stuff when I re-enter the US, as far as why I went, how long, what did I do...

As far as extending the tourist visa, I havn't done that myself, So I couldn't help you with that. If you go to the top of the screen with the Google search, you might be able to find some info.

Have a nice trip

Anybody can enter Colombia easily, Anybody.
Go here to check how long can you stay:
http://www.das.gov.co/extranjeria/

you better rent a hotel room. NOw do not missinterpret MOtel and Hotel. Motels in Colombia are places to have sex only. I would be very weird to see a person entering a Motel by him/herself.....For longer periods you may check the newspaper to find people renting single rooms....El tiempo in Bogota, El Heraldo in Cartagena I think,
El pais in Cali, El colombiano en Medellin.......cheers
