Hey all, as you may have noticed, now that I'm in Colombia, I started to write some travel guides. I also want to encourage other travelers to write them. I think we can do a better job than the Lonley Planet and other commercial travel guides. They'd be available for free, too. And they'd be more up to date, coz the printed guides are always out of date. And I was thinking, with the online book printing, we could even print our own travel guides into real books to carry around. So I'm thinking that travelers can do better than publishing companies these days. Thoughts?

I just hope that the spirit of this forum is respected and people stick to the subject, unlike some of the nonsense that goes on in others.

gato-bandido says on Dec 8, 2006, 07:28: old guides Peter, as you know there are lots of old travel guides and trip reports all over your site. They are not exactly up to date, but a lot of the stuff still applies today. Is there a way to move them to the Travel Guides section? For starters I would like to move my report about the trip to the Amazon in 2003 over, and then I may help find and move other trip reports.

litost says on Dec 8, 2006, 07:44: Precisely because there are bound to be conflicting views and opinions, an emphasis should be made on giving FACTS and useful TRAVEL INFORMATION about places. Naturally people will also want to give their impressions and personal opinion about a place, and I think that's OK, it just shouldn't turn into a boxing ring or get way off-topic like on the FTZ.

Peter (Moderator) says on Dec 8, 2006, 16:11: I found your article (great!) but can't move it to the forum - software doesn't let me. I'll be writing new software myself to power this site and then we can do what we want.. but that might be a few months off :) I'll do my best. But rest assured that at some point within say 4 months we should be able to do that. Poor but snappy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

webjacks says on Dec 8, 2006, 18:03: PDF Versions of Travel Guides If you wanted to post PDF versions of travel guides, you might try uploading them to someones web space, then just posting a link to them within a message. ¿Something like this?
