Travel from Bucaramanga to Cartegena

How much is a bus from Bucaramanga to Cartegena and how long does it take? I've never been to Colombia but my girlfriend is from there and I'm planning on going down with her soon to meet her mother in Bucaramanga, but she has always talked about wanting to go to Cartegena so I want to surprise her with a nice trip while there. Also, thanks for this site, I've been reading the posts all day and have found a lot of helpful advise! Is there a way to search the site???

Ticket price will depend on how early you buy it and how much you want to haggle. I would say the "normal" price is something like 80,000 to Cartagena, altohugh I would appreciate it if someone could confirm that. 12 hours to Cartagena...I always go at night.

a 12 hours bus ride isnt a nice way to start a vacation...fly then injoy the coast with her....after a 12 hour colombian bus ride you need 2 days to recoupe

listo

I stay with them every time I go to Cartagena for business. Your girlfriend would really like this place. I bring my wife and kids there twice a year.

I would highly recommend that you stay in the Old City.....it is what Cartagena is all about. While the apartments are nice in El Laguito the area is all about sex tourism and the beach is really shitty......there is a much better beach north of the airport and 10 min from the Old City....I would recommend the CASA REAL HOTEL.....has air, internet, breakfast and pool for around 140,000 pesos per night

never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it.......

I have just returned from Colombia and took a bus from bogota to bucaramanga and then to cartagena from there. The bus ride from bogota to bucaramanga is anywere from 9 1/2 to 10 hours and cost 30 thousand to 35 thousand pesos after negotiation. They were charging a lot more but I brought them down. The bus ride from bucaramanga to cartagena or vice versa will cost 80K but I brought them down to 60K. take the night bus and sleep in it. Try taking the larger comfortable buses as the smaller ones make 50 stops along the way to pick up and drop off passengers. The ride is around 12 hours and you won't even feel it when you ride at night. you go to sleep and when you wake up, you are there. In bucaramanga, stay in Hotel de Leon. Its clean and comfortable, cost 49K / night. The rooms are huge and clean. they have internet wi fi service for 3 thousand pesos / 24 hrs. There are many eating places walking distance.
Good luck.
