As I head south this fall, to hang out with the family, what is a REASONABLE amount of daily expenses for food and incidentals, (sightseeing, buy a few gifts to bring back to the States) a guy should budget? We don't hang out in bars and tend to dine on the "cheap but good" plan. I could see us taking about 10 people out to dinner one night, at a fairly decent place to eat.. Transportation=Transmilenio-- We will be staying in North Bogota also. I would love to spend a few days shopping and checking out the tourist traps....
My wife's perspective is quite different than mine, so I thought I would throw this out there for the truly objective traveler to Bogota, and get you all's opinion on this subject.

charlysito71 says on Aug 5, 2008, 18:03: we spend lots of time in Bogota, and eat out frequently each week. many restaurants in the calle #93 area have great food at 20 mil, while others have lousy food at 40 mil. ask around there are hundreds to choose from. Also if you are checking out the sights, we love Maloca, museo de oro, museo national, how about an evening at the theatre Colsubsidio, a median priced seat usually less than 10 bucks u.s. Try that in the states for a night at the concert.Bogota has it all including the best people you will find anywhere in this world, and music that never stops.

poco says on Aug 5, 2008, 18:54: Well,, for what's it's worth,, I'd say MAYBE $50 per day,, but $100 is closer and that's not living like a king. Then again,, what do I know,, I've never be outside the airport in Bogota (thank god) and don't intend to visit anytime soon,, like,, in 6 years I never had the urge to visit Bogota. Mononoke28 says on Aug 6, 2008, 10:20: If you're staying with family for free then $3000 is too much, me thinks. I spent $2000 in two months when I was there from Dec. '06 - Feb. '07 and that included buying groceries each week for a household of 5 , going on trips, eating out, visiting museums and such. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
