Travel Channel doing a special on Colombia

The Travel Channel is doing a special on Medellin Monday at 10p. Called "Anthony Bourdain's Travel Fantasy land " or something to that affect. Just thought I would give a heads up to those wanting to watch to see how life like its gonna be and what kind of spin or whatever they put on it!

I'm hoping that a bulk of Anthony's show will be spent eating some of the more traditional foods. And I ask, why in the hell didn't one of our respected members get in touch with him before his arrival to show him around?!?!? We have several people on the site that would serve as wonderful ambassadors for Medellin and several others that, if nothing else, would be extremely entertaining!

I love "No Reservations," and hope he gets a good taste of Colombia while there.

Too bad he did not visit Cali and see the woman down the street that grills on the street!

WOW, for 2,000 peso you get either Chicken, Pork, or Beef on a stick with potato! They have big pieces and its a REALLY good deal! It would be nice for him to taste her food!

Why did they choose Medellin? Is it supposed to be a gastronomic paradise?

Monpirri says on Jul 13, 2008, 12:22:

Who the heck said Medellin is a gastronomic paradise??? Certainly paisas here on pbh do not advocate for that crown.
It's more likely he picked up Medellin because the city used to be high in violence and maybe for other peculiar reason. If you see the promos you will see the comunas, teleferico and guy making believe he’s shooting someone with his hand or something like that.

Simon, that is one of those opinions that you are supposed to lock up in a closet. It is like saying that Dean Koontz is the greatest author of all time...jajaja. At least you did not call Stallone an actor.

I think Medellín is a good choice for at least one reason, the turn around. I am sure that Anthony will emphasize what the city was like a few decades ago in order to contrast it with what it is like today. That will be some nice PR for Colombia because Anthony's show is extremely popular.

Lcacique says on Jul 13, 2008, 14:05:

I believe, tomtom33, that it was just a bit worse in the late 80s early 90s. That doesn't mean it wasn't ugly in 2002. Some national viewers will have vague recollections of Escobar and the cocaine cowboys, outside of that, most people in the states have never heard of Medellín. I doubt many people have seen La Sierra to understand the cities more recent problems with violence.

Stallone is a wonderful actor. He was even nominated for an Oscar for Rocky. Who else could have pulled off the role of Rocky like he did?

Lcacique says on Jul 13, 2008, 15:37:

For a boxing film, Raging Bull with Robert De Niro is MUCH better. And you are right he was nominated for an Oscar not only as an actor but as a writer for Rocky. It was a good film. Stallone was good in it (but of course he was he wrote the role for himself).

First Blood was also good for an action film. Not great, but good. And Stallone fit the role.

Cop Land was my favorite performance from Stallone. I thought this was his best performance.

But a wonderful actor? I'm glad you enjoy his "talents" but I cannot see any evidence for such a claim. He is extremely limited as an actor and this partially explains why he has made how many Rocky films and how many Rambo films? Sorry, Simon...I just can't agree with you on this one. To me he is functional at best in a very narrow range of roles.

Simon says on Jul 13, 2008, 16:34:

Raging Bull was boring as hell. What an overrated movie.

And of course Stallone doesn't have the acting range of De Niro, but how many kids would rather be one of De Niro's dark characters than the heroic Rocky or Rambo?

all tit tat aside guys, my point is that i've been watching those damn movies for 25 year or more and i'm just plain fuckin sick of them. every day or so one comes up on tv like it was the first time. the syndicates must pick em up cheap. there, for all intents and purposes like john wayne or clint eastwood flicks...alright already, 10,000 times is enough si o no?
