"Transporter 2" Hollywood gives another black-eye to Colombia

Guess who is behind hiring the bad guys in the new movie "Transporter 2." Thats right, the Cali Colombia Cocaine Cartel.

Is this the only thing Hollywood can say about Colombia? And we wonder why people know Colombia as a place spewing with drugs, guns, violence, and evil. It would just kill Hollywood to be original and say, have a hero or heroine come from Colombia.

Nah, they wouldn't know what to do with it. They will just keep regurgitate the same lines, cliche', and sterotypes.

Ok, I vented, thanks for reading :)

bob777 it is up to us who know the good side of Colombia to spread the word.

One of my clients (local high school teacher) asked me if I brought any drugs back from Colombia on my last visit. He wanted to know why on earth anyone would go to Colombia.

He was sorry he asked, I talked his ear off and pointed him to my website. Hopefully he will become interested in Colombia and little by little some of the good aspects of Colombia will become known.

I don't expect this to balance out the bad image any time soon, but at least we can try.

Where's ColX when you need him? I didn't agree with him much of the time, but stuff like this did/does bother me and action does need to be taken.

When does Hollywood (and by and large the American (USA) public) stop being so ignorant to others? Hollywood knows its influence. Think about this, what do most American (USA) people think of Germans to this day? That they might be Nazis. How does that perception persist?

I hate writing this, esp. in 2005, but I would hate to see what would happen to your career if you tried to pitch any idea related to Israel that wasn't positive. Can you say blackballed?

I'll probably still see the movie, but they won't be seeing my money.

Yes, Colombia does ship tons of cocaine, but... thats the only thing that is ever portraited about the country. Hollywood only focuses on that one aspect. Colombia has a good side that the American people need to see, but Hollywood and the media only want to show that bad side.

Under the catagory of originality, I think Hollywood could come up with some interesting scripts using Colombia as a setting that does not involve drugs, violence, and/or kidnappings.

I guess I am still venting, but Colombia needs desperately a PR agent.
