What is the best way to get there? Take a cab or get a rental car? What is the fare for a cab? Could anyone please inform me if there are Rental car companies at the Santa Marta airport. Also need to know if there are rental car companies in Cali. If so what are their prices. I know in San Andres we paid around $200 US a day. That was really high. Any help is appreciated.

Gator says on Aug 17, 2005, 14:22: It's A long way... on the other side of Santa Marta at about km 35 on the Troncal del Caribe highway-the road to RioHacha. I don't think there are rental car agencies at the airport-which is small so get a cab. Should be say 20-25.000 pesos. Ask before you commit to a cab and know what the price will be. I do not recommend driving in as much as it would be very easy to get lost-road poorly marked but reasonably good. Do you know what a boat ride to one of the bays/beaches around the outside of the park run? Like have the panga guide wait while we snorkel/swim. Have lunch, a few cervesa's, then continue around some to see the different bays. Someone said you can rent a boat for $100, but I prefer to have a local do the driving. Any thoughts?

Gator says on Aug 17, 2005, 18:52: I Can Personally Recommend.... Caribbean Divers in El Rodadero, Robert Pelissier is the dive master and runs a SAFE, top notch operation and he has at least two dive masters who speak English well. They are on Carrera 1 #5 in the Edificio Rodamar. Their web site is: http://www.caribbeandiverscol.com/ "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Buongone says on Aug 17, 2005, 20:47: Road to Santa Marta Gator, Thanks again. Don't believe I'll be needing a chamber. Only going snorkleing. I'll check out the Taganga deal. Lonely Planet says that area is great, too. I'll check out those dive boats. Turn a dive trip into a fishing trip, catch some fish. That would be nice. I'll try the Robalo.
