translation help...

sorry if this has been asked already... as a couple of my previous posts have stated, i'm headed to colombia in a week and a half and need to know the best/romantic/respectful way to ask her mother for her daughter's hand in marriage...

any help would be appreciated and PLEASE, no practical jokes with the wrong translation... as funny as that would be, i would be terrified if i accidentally told her mother the wrong thing.

thanks -

ps... i'm thinking something along the lines to ask her, to tell her that i'll do everything in my power to take care of her etc....... etc...............

This always works. “Doña, me encantaria poner su hija en cuantro” It means that you will love her and adore her for ever. Is always nice to bring “postre” sweets to your lovely future mother in law better known as “la maldita vieja”

I'll get there, when I get there!

Mother or Father? Hey

Just wondering, is that the common practice over there? To ask the mother (not the father?) for the daughters hand?

mmmm Tell her simply " Doña (her name) me gustaria casarme con su hija"

And as Lorenzo says, if you do ask for her hand it would be to her father, but I don´t know in you girlfriend´s case if something happened to him.

PS. Don´t beleive Elmo he tries to be funny
