Transit visa

Hi, has any colombian tried to get a transit visa? or does anyone here know an experience of one?
I am thinking about the possibility of asking for a transit visa to go to France. It would be cheaper for me, since I have a friend who is an american pilot and can help me get cheaper tickets to go to France, but before I have to stop in the US...any comments?
Thanks for your help...

Problem with the cita It can be a problem to get an apointment with the american embassy in Bogota since the queue is very long.

But transit should be easier than to get a visa for the US so if your schengenvisa is okay there should not be any other problems.

Well they keep a good eye on you in the US and you are supervised all the time in the airport.

no more tranist visa Lars transit visa do not exist anymore....you need to apply (Colombians anyway) for a normal visitors visa just like any other visa...last year I tried to take my Colombian wife for a visit to Canada and we could not even do a 2 hour stop over in Miami....we had to travel through Cuba and then on to Toronto....never do that again took 2 days

Need to file form DS-158 which is available in lots of languages and on line. You must have permission to enter the country of your destination which is a passport with valid visa, be in immediate transit through the U.S, have a ticket or other evidence of transportation arrangements to your destination and have ädequate funds" what ever that means. You have to have your flight reservations and valid visas to a third country before applying for a transit visa. To my knowledge this requirement is still in effect but check with the embassy in Bogotá or go on line.

All in all it might be better to gfo through Mexico or another country then fly from there to France

No visas As post number 2 said the transit visas do not exist anymore, you either have a regular visa of anykind or you do not transit. US airports are not designed for transits so if you were on transit it actually involved having people escorting you from one flight to the next, so now and with all the terrorist problems, the US is not taking the chance of having anybody in their soil who has not previously investigated. You are going to have to find a cheap flight direct from Bogota to Europe. Try Air Madrid, they seem to have very cheap tickets.
