it would help to know what citizenship your friend holds.

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

Yep, where is "here?" Assuming you are asking about a Colombian getting a tourist visa for the US, I can't remember how much it is. A year or two ago it was a couple hundred bucks. BUT - most people who pay the fee and apply get denied. And that fee is non-refundable. The USCIS will have a list of fees for visas. Just Google "USCIS tourist visa."

Raquel - I saw you live in Cincinnatti. I grew up around Brookville and Connersville Indiana.

hi guys, its a visa to come to u.s. from colombia. my fiance said it is 141 dollars and its easy to get. He sent me the link to the colombian website and showed me the page. It showed the process of it and its called a B-1 or P-1 visa. Something like that. Is this true? And he says there is no rush because it is easy to get.

Hey robert, yea. those are areas close to me..i had family in Brookville, In.

Raquel, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a tourist visa to the US for most Colombian citizens is extremely hard to obtain. Because he is your fiance, your fiance will not stand a chance. The USCIS will know that you guys are together and will consider him a gross risk of a visa overstay. Do not even think about lying about your relationship either to the USCIS or at the embassy. If and when caught, he could be banned for 10 years from even applying for another visa and you perhaps could be charged with visa fraud.

My advice is to start a K1 fiance visa process. It will take 6 to 8 months. This is the legitimate way for your fiance to get to the US. I am not implying you are trying to do anything shady - just giving you information.

They will NOT issue the B visa because he HAS a visa now.. Be very very careful in pursuing this line-you could end up with the K-1 being voided.

I think the visa fee is $131 USD

They will need to prove they own property, leave close family ties back in Colombia, have the financial resources to support themselves, have no intention of overstaying, and show they will not try and obtain employement. Then, they will have little chance.

And I know that is a bitter pill to swallow and doesn't seem fair. Well, you can thank 12 to 20 million illegals in the US right now for the strictness in the visa process. Though in sheer numbers, Colombia isn't near the top of visa overstayers; but percentage-wise, there is a big problem with Colombians not going back at the end of their visa.

Little chance for the tourist visa I am afraid. They can pay the non-refundable fee and do the paper work but the last time something like this was granted a star and three Wise Men came out of the east. That being the case, Mrs. Gator and I will sit on the roof with binoculars because we don't want to miss it this time.

Robert's post nailed it: "They will need to prove they own property, leave close family ties back in Colombia, have the financial resources to support themselves, have no intention of overstaying, and show they will not try and obtain employement. Then, they will have little chance."
