Tourist visa

I read two different length of stays for a tourist visa in Colombia. The airline website said 90 days and the US government website said 60 days. Which is it?

Thanks

Just Like The USA The length of time is not a matter of Colombian Law but what ever the DAS decides when you enter. Generally it will be an automatic 30 days if you say nothing. Tell them you will be in Colombia longer and it will be probably 60 days. If you wine and cry you might be given and initial 90 days. BUT, no problem. A ëasy "trip" to the local DAS office, located in all the principal cities, and you can get an extention.

Be sure and get the tax exemption stamp before leaving the airport-that will say you roughly $20.00 USD on the departure tax. Have a wonderful time in Colombia.

A la orden,

Depends where you are from, what amount of days you can ask for on entry to Colombia.

I presume from your handle that you are from the US.

So as Gator says ask for 90 days on entry, if you don't ask for it they will probably just stamp your passport with a visa for 30 days.

You can stay in Colombia for 6 months in any one year on tourist visas, so if you want to extend your stay by a month, go to the local DAS office a couple of weeks before your visa expires, they will give you a leaflet, telling you what paperwork is needed for a new one month visa, you can then do the same the following month etc, up to the 6 months maximum. Each time you go to extend your visa, it will cost approx 55,000 pesos.

juz returned from a trip to DAS... not difficult at all... the people there speak english and all you need for the extension are 2 color pictures, passport, photocopy of your passport with the picture page and the page with the entrance stamp and photocopy of your air ticket to prove that you are leaving Colombia. the fee is $54.800 and you have to pay at the bank. So go to the DAS office early in the morning because you need to wait in line twice (bank and DAS) and you don't really need to go there 2 weeks in advance. You can even go on the very last day of the the expiry..but then again, going early is good!

DAS The whole DAS thing is a bit different with different hassle levels depending on where you do it. Earlier this year I did one in Medellin, two in Popayan and one in Bogota. Medellin DAS was the least friendly, Popayan was OK...the first time, and strangely Bogota was the easiest of all. I had no plane ticket out (usually required) so I forged a printout of a web page and said I had an electronic ticket. The conversations about this got a bit surreal, but it worked. The most fun is getting fingerprinted!
