Does anyone know if you can get an extension on a tourist visa at the DAS office in Armenia, or only in Bogota? Thanks!

Gator says on Mar 1, 2008, 07:29: Ryan-do you have an actual tourist visa or did you enter on your passport? Since Armenia is the capital of Quindío there should be a DAS officer there. I STRONGLY suggest you call to determine exactly what you need. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Ryan2000 says on Mar 1, 2008, 08:12: Hi Gator, I do not have an actual tourist visa. I am planning on spending some time living in Manizales, but I understand that once my passport is stamped with the 60 or 90 day visa, I need to make a monthly trip to the DAS office to get another 30 day extension once my time runs out. I thought this could only be done in Bogota, and monthly trips to Bogota could get pricey. I saw that there was an office in Armenia, a lot closer to Manizales, and this is why I am wondering if extensions are issued there.

Gator says on Mar 1, 2008, 11:09: Head to the one in Armenia-Bogotá MRE would handle it if was an actual tourist visa. Again, call first to find out what exactly is needed for the process-sometimes the "rules"will differ slightly from office to office. Robert Jorge says on Mar 1, 2008, 20:28: Ryan - you know what to do. The only thing that I disagree (respectfully) with Gator on, is calling the office. I suggest going there IN PERSON and asking them face to face what they require of you. Then, in front of them, write down the list of things they require. But no matter what, the process is no big deal, nor anything to be intimidated by. By calling or going in first, you are just saving yourself potential wasted time running unnecessary errands. Ryan2000 says on Mar 2, 2008, 03:28: Hey guys, that is great advice. I did not realize that Manizales is the capital of Departmento de Caldas, that will make my life way easier (and a bit cheaper) when I move there. I am not moving until September, and am glad there are cool guys like you to help me plan this way out in advance.. Thanks!
