im really not surprised. medellin has the combination of great weather, a relatively safe environment, and plenty of people who are friendly, extroverted and attractive.

furthermore, its a pretty darn good jumping off point to see Guatape and the rock there, which has some of the most beautiful scenery in colombia, or to take a day trip to santa fe, or a two day trip to rio claro or a three day trip to Salento and Valle de cocora.

I noticed on the airline prices...Kicking me in the ass adn more difficult and have to become more creative with airline tickets to Medellin...Like today I booked the following.. Tourists going to MDE are driving up the prices...

American for 306.30 Multi City R/T.....If I did the R/T MIA-MDE would of paid 721.00
MIA-BOG
MDE-MIA
Avianca for 141.00
BOG-MDE-One Way

Almost want to move to Bogota now with the airline prices to Medellin from Miami now because of the tourist demand....

But I am creative and always on the hunt..for good prices..

JFK non stop to MDE two years ago was $526 Today - $1,200.

I think it's the whole gas thing moreso than the tourists. But I'm not so sure.

What the effff? You gotta be kidding me! Last year I took it round trip from JFK-MDE late April returning late June and I paid $535 all taxes in. And this was literally just last year.

1200??? What a rip.

And it must be a gas thing. A couple of the airlines I used to use just went into insolvency because of the gas thing. Demand hasn't gone up THAT much.

I said non stop - there is only one flight once a day in and out, same plane. AV042/AV043. OK I just checked all different dates and got back an average of $750-$850

The $1200 was me checking in mid July for a trip in late August initiating in MDE. Plus the peso was stronger at that time. Some people only take the non stop between MDE and NYC- so when they get filled the price rockets up.

interesting! medellin deserves it im sure about it. now my question is how many travel agencies are in medellin that can offer a variety of services in spanish, english and another foreign language to gringos who want to do something else besides partying their heads off in mangos. im sure its not like thailand or even like argentina but i would like to know something about this. anyone knows?

High airfares also due to higher fuel costs across the board although $720 just to go the Northern South America from MIA is a rip off. Argentina and Brasil only $1100 and twice as far. Rio any one? Hear the Termas are out of this world.

Okay...its not fuel...

If a MIA-BOG Flight with American is 306.30 which will burn more fuel..and flight MIA-MDE is 717.00 which will burn less fuel than its not fuel..

Sorry....In this case tourists have driven the price up to Medellin even Copa will not give promotion prices to Medellin right now anymore...

Its all about demand and competition..NOT Fuel in this case with Medellin no way...Anyways Oil had dropped lately...and price of fuel has dropped...

Medellin is on the rise I say...More hotels, more services, more fast food, Tourists on the rise.in Medellin is correct.

MIA-BOG and CTG so cheap because of competition with Spirit but on the MDE route (no competition from Spirit yet) the ticket price is up. Part has to be from the fuel too. I don't know how the airlines survive now with $306 RT!?

Yes hotels have definetely been more expensive in MDE.

Yeah The Inter. starts at $130 tax and 4 Points $150 tax 1 month out from today!!!!!!!! Just using them as a baseline. It is absurd. Lucky I don't have a novia there now.

C.R. Hotels much more expensive too! I think everyone avoiding Europe it is so expensive.

But I won't pay $120 for a Best Western in C.R. Never when I can right now get a kick-A 4 star in Fort Lauderdale (The Grand) for $93 .

Yes Mono....Its become better to do R/T's to Bogota then to MDE....I am going thru Bogota to get to Medellin for the next 6 trips....The one just bought though for November I had to be creative and buy two tickets one with American MIA to Bogota and then Avianca one way to MDE and then flying direct out of MDE to MIA with American.American was a Multi City R/T with one leg going to Bogota...Total Price 444.00 including a one way with Avianca which was 138.00.....Avianca wanted almost 700.00 for the same route with the same dates...and American wanted almost 700.00 for the Direct R/T MIA-MDE....The trick is on Bogota promotions due a multi city selection and make one of the legs go thru Bogota and the other direct out of MDE....
