Tom Power's Top Cartagena Music

Before embarking on your Cartagena Holiday please listen carefully to the following songs inorder to get into the mood.

1/ Kaleth Morales - Vivo en el Limbo
2/ Peter Manjarrez - El Amor de mi Sabana
3/ Jorge Celedon - Quatro Rosas
4/ Silvestre Dangond - Por Tu Amor
5/ Silvestre Dangond - La Colegiala
5/ El Afinaito - Busco Alguien que me Quiera

I've chosen the last because Cartagena is the home of Champeta.

Remember, we're all in this together.

Agree about Kaleth and "vivo in limbo". That's a great song. I bought the album based on that song and found it totally mediocre, so maybe he's a one-hit wonder?

Kaleth is a legend in Cartagena.

The thing is, after he experienced widespread success he was dead within a year. Killed in a car crash. There was a lot of unrealised potential there.

Talk to a female costena and they will probably tell you he was a gifted writer of lyrics. The song "Lo Mejor Para Los Dos" is also appreciated all around Colombia.

que nota!

Hiya Tom

Just back from 2 weeks in Cartagena with Kathy and Stephanie and enjoyed it thoroughly!
I'm sorry I can't comment on your list of artists but Kathy met an old friend (female) and the two of them spent the night yakking and listening to something that emphasized the accordion. If I ever hear that noise again I think I'll lose it! It started to sound like bagpipes!

Anyhow... Sept 10 Decree Absolute.... Oct whatever for the Marriage....if I can impose once again to get the translation done by the Consul I would appreciate it.

I will research these artists and get back to you. Currently, I favour Yuridia, a Mexican girl singing rehashed American songs. Just enjoy her voice and the fact that the songs are slow enough to attempt my slow form of translation.

Thanks for all your help
Terry

Terry2 - That would have been vallenato that you heard. Served best with guaro (Aguadiente), whisky (Old Parr), rum (Caldas), Aguilas (beer), a group of friends, and no English being spoken. It's an acquired taste. Sounds like you better get used to it or....

Vivo en El Limbo was and is considered vallenato. Kaleth was a young (approx. 19-20 yo) gifted rising vallenato singer, who died in a car crash while touring between Cartagena and Valledupar, approx 2 years ago. He still has several songs out and about, including collabos with Silvestre, Peter, and Ivan. and many live renditions circling the music scene. Not sure about actual albums. He's loved and respected by all in BAQ.

I'll add to the list (agreeing with the above)

Peter Manjarrez - El Angel
Peter Manjarrez - El Papa de Los Amores
Peter Manjarrez - El Amor de Mi Sabana
Silvestre Dangond - Se Acabaron
Silvestre Dangond - El Tao Tao (just a personal one to dance to while drunk on the above)
Jorge Celedon - Que Bonita Esta Vida
Jorge Celedon - 4 Rosas
Kaleth Morales - Siete Palabras
Pasarela - Dalmata (a reggaeton joint that works well on the coast)
La Vecinita - Vico C (another reggaeton song - people like to sing the hook)

"Don't tase me, bro!!!!"

I need to explain my list:
It isn't necessarily the best songs only those vallenatos that I recognize from the beaches and bars of cartagena if your sitting in Tu Candela or Mr. Babillas for anymore than an hour you'll hear these songs with perhaps the exception of Afinaito.
These songs are a good preparation for not feeling out of the loop when every dam colombian in the house is singing away,... now you can join in!!
PS. You're not leavin' me much time Terry!!!
PSS. Remember, we're all in this together.
