tobacco

Hi everyone, this might be a stupid question but do they have rolling tobacco in Colombia?
After talkin with my gf (could have been a problem with translation) she didnt seem to think there was.
In the uk the roll your own scene has grown enormously due to the high cost of cigarettes. When i go over for my visit should i take my own supply of tobacco, papers and filters or is it all easily obtainable in Medellin area?
thanks
A

The rolling tobacco, which is what I like, is very hard to obtain here. Only available from a few places, and it is effectively Duty-Free marked up so much that it is almost UK shop prices. (26-30 thousand pesos) You can buy it at Miami airport and save a load. Last time there 2 years ago, a kilo of Golden Virginia (the Colombian allowance-20X50gram packs ) cost about 110 Dolars.
Cigarettes are very cheap here and at present I have to smoke those but they are not the same.
Also pie, if you like filters, bring those too-not to be found. At times, I have purchased the cheapest cigarettes, just to break off the filters. Bring your own papers too; Birchington has some cheapy shops selling those at discount prices in bulk. Papers do exist here but are also expensive unless you know where to go and often they are the big ones for smoking other things!

I would! Otherwise you will spend your whole holiday searching for tobacco and if you find it, you will get stung anyway.
You will receive funny looks if you roll them in public, especially from the police. I generally "roll some up" before going out.
OK, they look different but the action of rolling does arouse suspicion and if your Spanish is limited, how will you explain what you are doing to the local police, most of whom do not speak any English?

I happen to have a large freezer bag of the best Canadian loose smoking tobacco brought to me by the grower in Canada a few months ago. You are welcome to some of this. We live in Cali,

There is an excellent place in Medellin for Tobacco and Cigar lovers.

It´s a tobacco shop where you can buy all types of Cigars, even Cuban cigars (not available in the US) and also colombian Cigars and tobaccos and anything else you may need. You can even enjoy a nice cigar upstairs, they have a lounge, they serve whisky and rum while you listen to cuban music. Very nice.

It´s located El Poblado, now...how´s that address???...mmmm, ok, ask for a restaurant called Primos on Calle 10B or is it Calle 11?, anyway, go west to the corner and turn left, it´s in the middle of the block.

Pielroja, you can smoke two puffs and cough for days. They make luck strike no filters look like candy cigarettes.

The only good thing about them is the sugar paper they are wrapped in.

I may be interested ColombiaBoard but el Poblado prices? I am (sort of) retired and if I am going to be exploited, it would need to be with very interesting music. I think that I will just have to go on suffering Royal ciggies for a while.
Azu-like your post. Getting into business now? Who do you use as the "heavies" to collect the payment installments; thought you were a peaceful sort! Hahaha?????? Stick with your music, it is safer!

Well Kenblanquito, you can go check the store, you don`t have to buy.

They have a nice humidifier room with lots of cuban cigars and colombian cigars too, it´s worth a visit. They also have shops in Bogota and Cartagena but I don´t remember the name.

piel rojo......it's turkish tobacco at it's harshest/worst. like goiloise (sp) the french fags.

a better deal for an inexpensive decent colombian smoke is 'caribe' they're about 30-50 cents u.s. a pack. they're virginia leaf and ok.

i didn't start smoking until i was about 35...in india, with beedies....i liked em. then when back in the us..newly dumb...i couldn't find an american smoke i liked. so i started rolling....first the premium, 'three castles' a very fine virginia tobacco. but it was too moist. i ended with 'top' a good inexpensive virginia. it used to be $.15 cents a pack. now about 3.00 bucks.

i rolled for about seven years. i finally stopped, because my stores were pretty luxurious (oriental carpets and tapestries) and folks would be so wierd watching me roll...dumb remarks, etc. so finally i just bought smokes. dorals have been my smoke for about 15 or 20 years.
