To Whine or Not To Whine……To Accomplish or Not....

Now that President A. Uribe will be leading Colombia for the next four years, does that mean that here, on PBH, we will have to listen to/read the constant, humdrum complaining from the perpetual anti-Uribe and anti-Democracy whiners for 4 more years? It seems to me that on a website created for the promotion and appreciation of life in Colombia, and to Colombians in general, that the members of the PBH Whine and Cheese Club would get tired of repeating the same old rhetoric and propaganda over and over and over and over and over and over and over again…………….sorry, my keyboard got stuckkkk…….=) The negativism is getting rather boring. If these same Whine Club members, especially the Charter members, and the companion Whiners in Colombia would devote as much time promoting unity in a collective and community effort in solving the current issues facing Colombia, with the focus on making Colombia a better place, as the amount of time spent complaining about this and bitching about that, can you imagine where Colombia would be now politically, economically, security-wise??? Factor in less whining and bitching inside of Colombia, more being accomplished, and the possibilities are endless……IMHO =)

Personally, as a US citizen, I vote for the President of my choice every 4 years. Sometimes my choice wins, and sometimes not. But in any event, the President who does win is still my President, and the President of my country, although not my personal choice. But I am not arrogant enough to think that “I am the US, rather “We (US citizens and legal residents) are the US. This is a novel and somewhat foreign concept to many: “We means plural, more than one, many, etc….It seems that for many Americans, the national sport is now complaining, whining, and bitching to no end. It is now “I, “Me, “Mine…..the “We has been forgotten and put on the backburner…Americans no longer subscribe to the “Team Concept, and the “player has become more important than the “game in their minds……Simple concept, really, if you think about it….United We Stand, Divided We Fall… What a “novel idea!!!?? I may not have voted for a particular President, but I am certainly not going to spend all my time bitching and moaning about him. One man is not the country, and can not be responsible for every minute detail of government. Along with citizenship comes personal responsibility as well. I believe in what is best for the majority of people, as it is impossible for everyone to be completely happy in life because we are not Clones. No country is perfect, and no President is perfect. I feel it is my civic duty to support my President and to promote improvement of life in the US, not a duty to constantly try to badmouth the government and undermine it. As long as the country is heading in the right direction under the President, the ideological and issue differences can be worked on together. Yes, work to change what I disagree with, in a civilized manner, I don’t cry if things don’t go my way. It seems that the media have morphed into what I contemptuously call the “National Enquirer method of reporting: crisis and conspiracy driven, absence of objective and credible reporting, agendas of financial and political driven motives. In a crisis-driven society like the US, attacking the Presidency, regardless of political party, seems to be a surefire way of selling newspapers, airtime, and advertising.

Now, apply the Team Concept to Colombia: allowing for opposing views and opinions presented in a non-violent, debatable forum, with input from all of its citizens , resulting in laws passed by the representatives of the people, and carried out by the government. The goal is the establishment of a freedom-based society and the improvement of life for all Colombians. But rather than trying to get these goals accomplished, all that energy is wasted blaming others, the government, ghosts from the past, present, and future. What a colossal waste of time and energy. But like the self-serving creatures of habit that we are, it will be very difficult to get anything meaningful accomplished. Sad, indeed.

Happy Memorial Day to the US folks. Remember to think of those who died defending the US, your right and freedom to play on the internet exercising your freedom of speech. Freedom is not free.

juancegomez addressed this earlier today, and I quote: "Anyone and everyone has a right to complain...and everybody else has a right to complain about that complaining if so they choose.

It seems that the whining about whining began after the war against terrorism started. When it was constant negative comment about sex with interns in the White House, including an attempt at impeachment, that wasn't called whining. Before that it was just called critical commentary, a duty of the opposition regardless of who is in power.

So continue whining about whining... it's your right.

The point is that some people are never happy, its just ..... their nature, and they want others to be the same...pointing out whining is not whining, IMHO, unless one repeatedly complains about it.......But then again, Misery loves company...

Just my opinion...

BTW, Whining replaced baseball as America's favorite pastime ... long before the buzzword of terrorism...such a shame...

Back to the post....

"entonces?
Oiga Juan C. what are you proposing then to make Colombia a better place?. Elbigie ..Now i am assuming that this was address to the OP, as juancegomez has not posted here in this thread yet...

My Recommendations: (i am sure this will ruffle the feathers of many..jejeje)

1. Eliminate FARC as a rebel group, transform into a non-violent political part. End 40 years of insanity, using an all-out offensive. Result: Colombian won’t need to live in fear of their violence. FARC (or at least those politically motivated as opposed to those FARC foot soldiers that are not really politically motivated, but more like sheep used by the leaders) get a voice in their destiny. Imprison/extradite those who refuse and continue to kill/main/injure fellow Colombians for the Marxist/narcotics cause.

2. Continue demobilizing the paramilitaries to include back into society. Imprison those paras who return to criminal organizations; no amnesty for atrocities committed.

3. Continue assault on the narcotics organizations. Extradite leaders and primary shot-callers.

4. Purge the government of corruption. Those in government connected with the narcotics traffic become eligible for extradition. Re-establish integrity and honesty to government.

5. The government needs to provide the basic infrastructure necessities to all the citizens of Colombia. Education and training are a priority. However, this is tied to improving the economy and employment as it really doesn’t make sense to have an educated but unemployed people. Provide for the rights of workers, while encouraging business interests.

6. Balance the needs for an improved economy with the importance of respecting the environment. Solicit foreign-investment in shared ownership in hi-tech industries, etc.

I am sure there are other important issues that need to be addressed, but this should suffice for now for purposes of relevant discussion. (Besides, I need to get back to my final days at work!! =P ))

Colombians have many positive contributions to offer the world; but they need to overcome the immediate issues of security, corruption, and lack of infrastructure necessities. I believe Uribe is addressing these issues, but it is not a one-man operation, as any head of household knows that he needs the participation of all members of the family to work together.

Non-violent disagreement is acceptable and important. Needless whining for the sake of whining is not needed or relevant. And if you don’t participate in the efforts to make improve to life and society in general, then don’t bitch. (ie, voting, promoting common good, helping others as opposed to self-serving interests, etc….).After all, there are doers and then there are whiners. I choose to be a doer. And you???
