To Lucia Rojas

Lucia: You seem to know quite a lot about bilingual schools in Bogota. Could you give me your input on Gimnasio del Norte and perhaps The Abraham Lincoln schools? I need one that is truly bilingual since my son doesn't speak or write any Spanish.
Thank you Lucia,

Hi,
sorry for the delay.. I had been away. Well, it all depends on your budget and your educational needs. You can choose between American systems and curriculums, or English systems which implement the English National Curriculum. Most private schools in Bogota teach english. The intensity and whether it has expats as teachers make it vary. Some schools have full immersion.. which means almost every subject (except spanish) are in english: Colegio Nueva Granada, Colegio Gran Bretaña, colegio Anglo Colombiano... Others have the main core subjects or a choice of subjects (lang, maths, sci) in english: Los Nogales, Tilata, Portales,San Carlos, San Bartolome, Gimnasio del Norte.....
Accreditation is also an issue. You want a school with some sort of international accreditation for it to be valid it in different countries- IB ( International Baccalaurate) CIS, ASSC, etc. I am not sure any of the schools you mentioned have them.. All of these schools have very good web pages were you can find all information you need.

Size ia also something you can choose... Some schools are huge like Colegio Nueva Granada , or really small Like Colegio Gran Bretaña..

Anothere thing, children learn a language very fast, I see cases everyday of children who arrive with no spanish and speak it after a couple of months. How old is your child?

I hope this helps... Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to help as much as I can...

Lucia Rojas, You have just destroyed the possibility of anyone saying that nothing useful ever appears on PBH. What a concise, yet comprehesive, on-target answer. Very impressive! Wow!plátano

Thank you For your replies. Yes, Gimnasio del Norte has the IB program, also the International School but they haven't replied to any of my emails so I guess I will give my business to Gimnasio del Norte. The English School appears to be very very good but they already told me they don't have "cupo" for anyone else for the coming school year and the colegio Gran Bretana, which I visited last year in September, is just too damn expensive...They did away with the "bono" which was almost US$6,000 but the pensiones are up and up..I am not quite willing to pay nearly US$800 monthly...now US$450 is more up my alley.
Thank you. Is there a chance I could meet all of you in July? I will be arriving on the 2nd?
Thank you again,
Ines

My cousin's son goes to Gimnasio del Norte and he is a very happy child... and since they have the IB then that means it has high standards; for a school has to complete all the requirements to get accredited and they get checked on every few years...
