Come on, I know it is a little fashionable to overcharge gringos, but paying $70-$100 a night for a apartment is a rip-off. Especially when most people pay an average of $500 a month for an decent apartment. Does anyone know of any apartments that are a good deal? Or where is a good site to find some.
I have been coming to Bogota every two months and these rents are starting to get to me.

CakeDesigner-wannabe says on Feb 20, 2009, 14:59: Mandotech, it depends on what area you were 'ripped' off. If you were staying in the North area, then $70 - $100 is the price you pay for.

mandotech says on Feb 20, 2009, 16:22: azunoman, I know what you mean about paying different prices. It always takes me a few days to get used to using a different currency. This week I went to pay for a few items and the clerk overcharged me. Luckily my girlfriend´s sister was behind me and made the clerk give me back some of my money. so good luck is right jajajaja

durito2 says on Feb 20, 2009, 17:34: You are never going to be able to pay anywhere the same price when renting a short term furnished apartment with no paperwork vs a year lease, completely unfurnished place, which in colombia requires cosigners and a cedula and more bs. There are no gringo prices, just what the market dictates.

griffbos says on Feb 21, 2009, 09:00: They issue is there are very few furnished apartments in Colombia for rent, they are priced for the tourist, I don't know any Colombians that rent a place furnished unless it is a vacation, Sinc these apartments are for tourist they charge tourist prices, So you pay close to what one would pay in the USA for a hotel. Until there is more competion that is how it will stay.

I stayed at a hotle there for $49.99 and it was a dump. Here are some of the reasons I like these apartments: Your Home Away from Home www.welovebogota.com and www.apartmentinbogota.com "Luxury apartments and rooms Cheap" Only 2 blocks from the American Embassy! 24/7 hour security.http://www.monsterrakebacks.com Come gamble and get money back! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

christobeldawg says on Feb 21, 2009, 22:05: I stayed there, it is in a half decent area near the US Embassy. It's good for a short term visit, better price than staying in a hotel chain. If you are a more experienced traveler, you can find much better deals, but it's ok. There is no view to amount to anything, but it is a clean secure place. You will be sharing the place with others, which is a bit 70's European, but not that big a deal, unless you want to rent out the entire place, which is expensive. I would geuss that is a 4-5 estrado, with better than average security. traveling hopefully is always better than arriving 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Chelito says on Apr 23, 2009, 13:50: So you look in newspapers for furnished apartments in the listings (for example El Tiempo). You ring them and then you go see it. Also look on any brick walls and almost always there are adverts with numbers for apartments stuck up there. I found my apartment through a friend who lived on a block that was all owned by one landlord, Bang in the centre of Bogota, furnished, services included, 450,000 monthly. Suerte.
